FSX Native Hangar Queen?

Just completed all the animations exterior and VC and they are working fine in the sim.

Now moving to recreate all FSX native materials.

Speaking of which, I really hope someone does a proper bump map for this aircraft livery.

That oxidation on the fuselage is also on the wings and tail. You can almost see the lumps and bumps now. :)

One can never have too many Aero Commanders. ;) I think your Aero Commanders are the twins that I have the most sim hours in. The only modern twin that could really get me out of them would be an Aerostar (I think A2A is working on one, since Scott bought one), and a Cessna Crusader (I'm trying to talk Carenado into having a go at one of those. :) ).

I agree, love the Aero Commanders, and I love your models Milton.

I used to live near Essendon Airport and saw one particular Aero Commander flying in and doing touch and goes almost every day around the same time, usually late afternoon. When I did a scenery of Melton Airport (at OzX), which is not far from Tullamarine and Essendon, I discovered that the Aero Commander was based out of Melton, and was on all their brochures etc.

ORBX also did a great job including that aircraft in their AI traffic package.

Cheers,

Thank you for the comments. I appreciate them.

Well, I now have all animations, visibility, mouse tool tips, effects, and all new FSX materials completed and working.

I have identified 8 issues to correct, and then some cleanup/improvements to do here and there.

This model does have bump and spec maps enabled and place holder textures are in place.

I resisted any notion of making changes that would affect liveries because I want all of these conversions to be compatible with the more than 100 paints out there.

This conversion is taking longer because there are so many textures. Back in 2003-4, computers choked on 32-bit 1024's but were okay with smaller textures so that is what we have in this series. I will also make an attempt to replace DXT3 compressed textures with 32 bit if I have them. Most textures were compressed back then too to 8 bit or DXT3s. But this conversion has no frame rate issues ... max'ed my frame rates at the limit here at 36 and does not budge.

Dear Uncle Milton

VERY HIGHLY APPRECIATED

Even the Carenado need yet some touch your 2003 one has

One request though ( etill even with the trouble the last one has caused**)

Can you pls increase the VC resultion a bit ? (2048)

Thanks Roland

** big discussion about a new model over here/wasnt) -everybody even NASA became involved

Hi Roland :)

This aircraft panel was updated to 3072 wide back in 2012. That includes, left, center, and right panel, each at 1024. The gauges are clear from even behind the pilot's seat at 70% zoom.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got all the kinks worked out and now tweaking things.

For example, the gauge back-lighting, if not corrected, is going to cause a wiring harness fire, so I will definitely correct that. Mice I guess.

The Blue livery cleaned up really well and the surface is in good shape; no oxidation I can see. The interior ... well ... I'll let you deal with that.

The "Hangar Queen" is good, solid. Don't let appearances fool you. She's a money-maker. Just don't wear your Sunday best to go to work in her. She's a bit grungy.

Okay, still knocking down some little issues but should be able to wrap this up tonight or early Saturday here at GMT -7.
Hope to get this out for you this weekend early.

EDIT: Aw man, was able to fix the wiring harness intermittent short before I lost all those eyebrow lights. :) Still have a few bulbs out, but hey, they work fine. :)

Can't Touch This!

You made a lot of people (19,505 dnlds) very happy with the Shrike (for 'hand flyers', which includes me) back in 2004. It won the FltSim award too. Nuff said. You the man Milton. Looking forward for the FSX native. Who said FSX is dead. You can't beat this with a stick. Eat your heart out payware!

PS: Just downloaded the Hoover paint included in FS2004 version (with updated dynamics). Life is good.

Are you kidding me :jump: :jump:

Anything from the Milton Thoroughbred Stable is always a 'must have' :applause: :applause:

Pete.

I have to add a big "Seconded" to this. I have a separate hanger and flightline space posted "Milton Shupe Aircraft ONLY" with parking for all your models.

I agree with Chuck 110%!
For once :biggrin-new:

I love these planes. Been watching Mr. Hoover since about 1968. Now, I can try, TRY I say, to do some of the things he magically does with this plane. I CAN manage to the Tennessee Waltz at Reno. On a good day, with both engines running. I can also manage to keep it straight and level at altitude on one engine. Mr. Hoover made all the things in his show LOK so easy, but they aren't, that's for sure.

Anyway, looking forward to this plane hitting the Library. Bring it on! I'll even take a shop vac and steam cleaner to the cabin! :encouragement: :biggrin-new:
Have fun all! That's the point, aint it?
Pat☺

Hi Pat, be advised this is not Mr. Hoover's Shrike, and it's old, and a bit clunky, but treat her right and she will be good to ya. :wiggle:

One time on a business trip, I saw this bird in real life at LaGuardia airport. This was years ago. but I immediately got all excited because I loved this plane in FS... :)

I like it also..great colors! This plane (N500HP) is located at Anoka County Blain Airport Minnesota, KANE (not far from Minneapolis). It flys relatively regularly. I just looked at the FAA registry and found out the aircraft is registered to a company in Eagan, MN (the next town over from where I am)!

But I think this thread is talking about a different "500"...Milton's Aero Commander. That's great also and I'd love to see Milton do an update. Thanks Milton for all the time you spend doing great "stuff" for FS!

Just wanted to say. . .Thank You Milton! Great to see you venture into FSX_Land to pass on this classic. . .if only on occasion. Well done!:wavey:

Thank you Milton!
I'm downloading even as I speak. It may not be as snazzy as Mr. Hoover's bird, but heck, a little soap, some polish here and there, maybe some time on the back of a shop vac, and a decent mechanic, and she'll fly fine for me!

Now, where in the world did I put that shop vac???

Oh great, now I have to sober up my mechanic. AGAIN...

See y'all on the other end of the first run!
Pat☺

You are welcome Pat. I helped a bit as I had to replace the cracked windows in order to get her certified. And the guy would not sit in the 2nd seat until I had it steam cleaned, so its good to go in that respect. Have fun :)
