FSX re-install error

Hey guys (and gals),

I have a slight problem trying to re-install FSX and i need to collective wisdom of SOH to see if we cant find a solution.

Last week my trusty 8800GTX died a slow and painful death. I replaced it with the 580 card but in the process windows decided to rename my FSX hard drive from H to D. Try as I may it simply wouldn't change it back and obviously all the registry entries and uninstall options for all the software on that HD no-longer works.

As FSX is still listed as installed in the registry I can't reinstall it. When I put the disks in in says that it will perform an upgrade of FSX, it then hangs for a while and tells me that a another version of this software is already running and it kills it self off.

I have tried to delete the registry entries linked to FSX but to no avail. I REALLY don't want to reinstall windows to simply get FSX working...

So does anyone have any ideas/help?

Thanks in advance:icon29:

Good morning guys,

I have tried everything you have suggested but no luck.

I am going to try a base install of FSX on my external drive using my laptop, copy the data onto the desktop and then use the flight1 reg tool to add it to the reg.... will report back later if it worked.

Righteo - installed it to my solid state HD, copied across, ran the regfix - then winblows wouldnt allow FSX to write new files etc, i had to run it as admin... lets see what happens....

Ok so i got FSX installed but i cant install any addons with automated installers - like PMDG etc - due to them saying FSX isnt installed... yes i have run the reg fix tool.

Which operating system?

On the Desktop....Right click on Computer

Click on Manage

Click on Disk Management

Right Click on the drive in question

you can then change the Drive Letter and Path...but judging from your post it may be too late for all of that.

What about doing a restore to an earlier time before the problems started? It saved my butt a few times.

Welllll, you could always strong arm it and take complete ownership of the directory structure, but that could be a bit complex as trusted installer still needs permissions. However, I see that you had to run it as admin.. My recommendation is turn off your UAC.. That will help eliminate a LOT of frustrations..
