Fsx rex

I have both. One is older than the other but they are both available.

- REX essential also includes a weather engine which I never used as I had ASE/ASX. It also has more options available for colouring the ocean and inland textures
- REX 4 does not have a weather engine and focuses on textures. It includes new textures not found in the previous version, some of them quite good. It also includes wave animations and textures that are compatible with DX11 and consider also HDR so they can be used in P3D v2.

I actually use a combination of textures for both of them in FSX and P3D v2.

I would like to add too that as a DX10 user Rex4 is a must for great usable textures and it injects those textures into FSX incredibly FAST! I'm constantly changing the look and feel of FSX!

Question,

I bought Essentials, which I regret - I think I'd have gotten more out of 4 than out of Essentials. Now that it's on sale ...

Wondering if I buy REX 4, does it happily cohabitate with Essentials, or do I need to uninstall Essentials first, then install 4 ...

I'm hoping REX 4 will give me more flexibility with textures, esp water. I find REX Essentials good, but hoping 4 is better.

I have both installed no problem.

If you search back a month or two, I posted some side by side pics of the two in action using REX E for the wx engine and alternating REX E and REX 4 for the textures.

My two cents...REX 4 not only looks better but is incomparably faster. And if you have REX E, you can still use the engine from it. Just don't load the textures.

Since I seem to have never gotten the knack of the SOH search engine, here's the link....

And a few shots with REX 4

Thanks D - this is just what I needed. Wish I had seen these comparisons earlier - but glad to finally discover them. I suppose if I can still run the REX E weather with the REX 4 textures, then life is still good ...

cheers,

I picked up REX4 and got an even better discount due to the coupon the vendor provided(that I forgot about). Got it up and running and so far so good. I am getting good target FPS with everything maxed out and using the highest definition textures. I like the ease of the user interface and theme system. It was the best $15 I have spent all year!

Okay, little update. After installing REX4, I have noticed another unexpected benefit. Not only is FSX running much smoother now, many of my problematic FPS hog airports(mostly freeware) suddenly run smooth as silk! My guess is that the previous sky & cloud textures (which were old FS9 versions converted for FSX) were part of the issue I had with slightly erratic FPS and general smoothness, but also many of the airport textures and especially the lighting had an impact on performance. Now, it's like FSX is a fresh install with optimum performance. Again, best money I've spent in a while on FSX or anything else for that matter. :applause:

I had the same results when I got it too.

Rather than the nicer textures slowing things down, my system actually got faster.

It's really a win win piece of software.
