Fall color flight, enjoying the colors while they still remain (before everything turns white!). Flight was around Lake Minnetonka (west of the Twin Cities).

Finally getting the hang of screenshots that are something more than mediocre - this is the kind of colouration I've seen from you "pros" so, thanks for the inspiration - a long way to go yet, but it's fun to try getting better ...

DL - am admiring your screenshots as of late. Make mine look plain and dull. What is your technique? Had "shade" and there is "sweet" but I dislike how they add a step to start up and and also add to bloat-ware and can cause other issues.

Good times doing carrier ops in FSX these days!

Thanks for the kind works, ex! Those are raw files, not edited.

I get the whole extra addon/complexity issue. And I never found my screens were really up to par on my old pc. So when I got my new PC, I went for quality addons and ditched the peripheral stuff. As late as last week, when I posted here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?89852-Hot-Overexposed-Textures I was still not happy, then I started tweaking the settings on my monitor - ironically, those made the biggest differences. So now , it's just some good basics:

1) i5 / 660GTX combo. Not earthshattering, but way better than what I had. Bone stock, not overclocked.
2) REX (Texture Direct & Essentials) Stock themes, just pick the darker textures.
3) Steve's DX10 fixer - latest iteration gives G effects, and some improved shading
4) Max Texture Load = 4096

That's about it ...

No emb, SweeFx, etc. Not trashing those tools, I just don't want to spend my time tweaking. I'm finally happy! The only "complaint" I have is the intensity of the sun is still a bit brighter than I'd like, and that's on the lightest/smallest sun texture. Maybe there's a way to tone that down ... don't know. Not sweating it...

For old time sake, here's what consider my "best" FSX screen prior to the rebuild... I know, kind of a yawner, huh! The light/sky was just too bright and lacked depth ...

An even older one ... a rare moment when things worked well in FS9 ... remember the old days with Kirk's Sabre, even with gigantic pilot and canopy? That thing was a groundbreaker ...

Very nice ej, like the first in particular!!

Where did you get the decorated '121 helmets? Those look very smart!

cheers,

dl

Helmet is my own work. No problem to share. I did send it to Duckie if he chooses to include it with his repaint.

Love the FAW1 Noddy:) Tells you how much I don't care for the FAW2.. I went to fly it a couple of days ago (when Victorious66 was released) and FSX asked me if I trusted the gauges:biggrin-new: I'll stick with the FAW1;)
