FSX speedup

ccleaner is the way to go, and it's free. the best free software enhancement you can use for fsx is alacrity pc. it's not a registry cleaner. once you get it set up, you'll wonder how you did without it.

Agree

Alacrity PC is the best of all of them...You will be amazed at the difference...

I'd recommend getting a good defrag program before considering purchasing any registry cleaners.
I use O&O Defrag Professional myself and would swear by it. Just remember to disable defrag on SSD drives however.:)

Alacrity PC

Just to clarify...Alacrity is not a registry cleaner...It simply stops programs and processes that are running in the background, saving you lots of memory and PC processing time...When you exit FSX, Alacrity starts up all the processes/programs again...Registry cleaning usually does not do a lot to speed up your computer and will have virtually no effect on FSX...Won't hurt anything, and it's probably good to clean out the junk once in a while, but try Alacrity...

Alacrity Forum Down?

Ken's forum seems to be down right now, at least for me...Anyone able to connect to it? Thanks,

Steve

are there any possible dangers with using alacrity in vista? Is it easy for someone who's stupid with computers to use?

Hi all,
As Wozza said.Version 3 of the Advanced Windows Cleaner is an exceptional program. The other program you can get there is Smart Defrag.Again a really good free program.

what i did, was use the default profile that matched my o/s, then i added the few processess that were not already there. i added fsx in place of notepad, so that when i start the profile, it runs, then starts fsx for me. then when i click out of fsx, it reverses everything and puts me back the way i was, not counting the firewall and anti-virus which i have to shut off/restart by hand anyhow.

i did check the forum, kinda. i was able to log in, so i suppose it's not down

Hi Guys, I might get a few people who disagree with me on this one, but Registry defrager's and cleaners really don't do much if anything for performance overall (ducking now) !!! Not that they are necessarly a bad idea, but if you are looking for performance improvement cleaning the registry will do next to nothing. You are far better off making sure your drive is well defraged, and all the unnecessary bloatware is unloaded - Acrility is excellent for that. Don't get me wrong I use CCleaner frequently, mostly to clean up the crap - Temp files, cookies, etc, and I do scan the registry regularly, but I have never found any performance improvement after cleaning out the registry, it does however help prevent (and sometimes solve) registry problems.

I am not in anyway saying there is anything wrong with CCleaner or any other reg utility, I am just pointing out there is lots of hype about big performace improvements made by some of these tools and in my experience (and numerous technical articles I subscribe to) there is little performance gain.

If you want the max performance from your system it is always wise to stick to the basics, clean up the junk, defrag drive(s), and keep running processes to what you need to operate your favorite Sim - FSX of course.

Well, I tried them all....must say I don't see any significant difference. Mind you, I do appreciate all the good advice. Now I have programs to keep things clean and defragged. Tanx much.
