FSX Zoom function: is it temperamental?

Hi, Does this ever happen to you? You are trying to zoom in or out by pressing the + or - keys. They work when you first start a flight, then suddenly they stop working and sometimes later they start working again. I am sure there is a reason behid this, and I was wondering if one of you might share it with me?
Thank you,
Sid

Whenever you open or close the canopy (Shift + E) the zoom function will go south.
It returns as soon as you click with the mouse somewhere on the screen.

+ and - are not assigned to the zoom.
They are assigned to the current selection.
That means that if you select something else, then + and - will not modifiy the zoom anymore, they will modify what you have just selected.

Typically, if you hit the R key, then + and - will modifiy the sim rate, because R selects the sim rate.
If you want the + and - keys to modify the zoom, then you'll have to select the zoom first, for example by clicking on the screen (I didn't know that...), or by pressing the key that resets the zoom to 1x (it was BACKSPACE in FS9, I did the same assignement in FSX).

. . . It returns as soon as you click with the mouse somewhere on the screen.
Yeah, I was surprised to learn (on this Forum, some months ago) that this hits the nail on the head.

If the "+" or "-" keys don't affect the zoom situation, just click once, anywhere on the screen, and all's well again. Works first time, every time. Saved my frustration levels many, many times since learning that!

I should have asked this question a long time ago. This has been a great annoyance. Thanks for all the information.

One explanation lies in the FS commands assignement screen, in the options.
+ and - are assigned to a command nammed "increase/decrease selection". "Selection", not "zoom" ;)
