FTX Global Base Pack

Don't know if anybody has seen these screenshots and videos at www.fullterrain.com on the upcoming release FTX Global Base Pack. The screenshots and videos are pretty spectacular. A question I have is how that program will mesh with UT and GEX. If anybody is interested, definitely take the time to have a look.

To put it simply FTXGlobal is basically a texture replacement so: UTX no problem to be expected, GEX big no-no (as it's a texture replacement like FTXG).

edit: too late

It will work alongside UTX and replace GEX.

This is going to be a big game changer for FSX.

I am thinking that if it is a download that the size will be something in the double digit gigabyte size. DVDs would be the ideal way to install this program.

I recall John V discussing the size a while back. If you have a reliable broadband connection it shouldn't be an issue. I thought he said it would be around 10 GB, but I could be mistaken.

With W7 64, UT,GEX,REX and FTX - I get oom crashes, I had to let FTX go. Perhaps once the Global gets released it will be able to replace UT and GEX.

Download should be around a DVD size, that is less than 5GB. Installed size is around 9GB.

Still soon info, but today is 15.07 so as in promises - date of release! Ftx plus F5 on their website :icon_lol: !

John is saying mid next week at earliest. Fine with me, I'm not getting it until after next paycheck anyways. :mixedsmi:

Oh, yes. See it now:

So at this stage we're looking solid for a release this month, likely the middle of next week. The main thing is that the beta testers ensure that FTX Central and Hybrid Mode work as intended. The textures themselves are locked and loaded and there's only some minor landclass updates we will add in the next few days.

Ok, must wait.

Is it worth the expense? NC

Navy Chief, don't base your decision on my experience but, for what it's worth, I'll share it. I bought this two days ago. I bought only one state. It took nearly a day just to download all 25 zips. It then took over an hour to install the individual zips. I disabled GEX, activated the state, and then opened up FSX. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. The colors were not realistic, a simple roadway reappeared beneath a bridge, etc......In short, I deleted the whole thing and enabled GEX once again.

With everything concerning FSX, I'm sure you will get a lot of different opinions. Just thought I'd share mine. Bottom line for me: I simply wasted over
$ 30.00 U.S.

Randy, FTX Global is not Megascenery and it is not out yet. It is basically replacement textures like GEX but with some additional tinkering with landclass, so a totally different thing and is offered by ORBX to cover the while globe. We'll just have to see when it comes out.

Do you have any of the ORBX regions? just look at the textures and this will give you an idea of what the rest of the world will look like. It will give you more diversity than default so that when you fly in Asia it won't look as much like north America than it does with default. Personally I don't see that big of a difference other than darker (darker, by biggest pet peeve with ORBX regions) and better autogen placement, but then again I prefer photoscenery and will pass on this.

I have a couple of their freeware airports, which are outstanding! But that is all... NC

Unfortunately, when people are looking at OTBX regions they are looking at a combination of textures that even includes a little photoscenery. When you consider the custom fitted mesh, airports, custom landclass that are also included, it is very hard for people to see just the textures.

True since I have most the NA regions and why I said "look at the textures", LOL. Actual textures are probably the biggest part of any region, so it shouldn't be to hard to focus on just the textures.

NC is you don't have any of the regions, just look at the ORBX site and go thru the screenshots of just the regions, not the airports.
