Well, I guess cubs don't like high altitude. I was out to land on a sloped mountain for some halfpipe action like you see on youtube, but the engine sputtered on my way in and died. I couldn't restart it.

I was left with this:

I let the parking brake off and coasted backwards until I had enough speed to do a 180. For some reason, you can get the tail up on this cub fast. It makes me wonder how much cubs weigh. Check out my airspeed.

Next step? I took off and went gliding down the mountain. Once I got to a lower altitude, the thing started right up.

I couldn't find the mixture (how many knobs are there REALLY in a cub, right?) and the carb heat wasn't having an effect.

carb heat would not work in your case because you need the engine running, and you have to have it on before you enter into low throttle operations at altitude to keep ice from building up. Once the ice is there, your pooched until you can find a way to de-ice.

both controls to the right of the front seat in the FSX default J-3

are you in the FSX default? all J-3 should be the same?

Not using carb heat could cause engine failure ?
