Gauge Cleaner

Quicksand

SOH-CM-2023
Is there a utility out there for FSX that I can use to clean the unused gauges out of my gauges folder? I've searched a few places, but so far everything I've found is for FS9.

:isadizzy: Don't do it.... Ran one for FSX and cleaned out system gauges, mission pointer and compass stoped working. Might have been more problems, but luckily I had a backup of the gauges, restored them and all worked fine.

I would settle for a program that would at least list what it detected as unused gauges. That way, I could only blame myself if I flushed a necessary one.:kilroy:

Gauge files are relatively small and there's no performance impact when you have too many of them. IMO not worth the trouble.

The newer FS Panel Studio versions with FSX support have an FSX gauge cleaner built in.

FAC

Thanks, FAC. Mike, the reason I need a utility to look for the unused gauges is that I have removed several aircraft from my sim, as one of them as yet unknown was, I believe, causing a conflict that was/is causing some very weird things to happen to another aircraft. I need to know which gauges are left overs...

It won't help.

Gauges are loaded only when directly requested by aircraft you selected. Gauges that are not referenced by any aircraft are simply useles files on disk. The only scenario when gauges from one plane affect the other, is when both use gauges files that have the same names, and one aircraft overwrites them with own different version. But this is rare scenario and gauge cleaner won't help when it happen.
