German Pilot Meets American Pilot

Awesome story.. I have a multi-national family tree, and I can directly relate.. My great uncle Johann was in the Wehrmacht and was killed at Stalingrad in 1943.. On the other side, my grandfather and and his brother landed on Omaha Beach on D Day... My grandpa survived... His brother did not.. Another great uncle was wounded terribly on Saipan, and was was left for dead.. He would have died if he hadn't been rescued by a medic from a pile dead soldiers outside of an aid tent.... I come from a family of warriors... Their sacrifice is not lost on me... I salute them all, regardless of nationality... :medals::medals::medals::medals::salute:

a great example of humanism!. I have never believed that humanism comes from one side only. But what I see as a constant, is that the most skilled fighters who often are given sample such humanity.not contradictory?

i used to work at the home of a man who flew P39s in Europe in WWII ,one day while i under his kitchen sink..he started talking about the war, after awhile,he told me about when he was shot down and how he had spent the last 6 months of the war in a POW camp.....then he said...and the damnest thing is....one day i was mowing my lawn, and i saw a moving truck pull up to the empty house nextdoor,,i went over to meet the new nieghbor when the sedan pulled up...and ill snookered if on of the camp guards didnt get oout of that sedan.
we stood and looked at eachother a minute..he had a fightened look on his face,so i went to him, smiled,,hugged him and asked him if he wanted a beer, and introduced my wife to him....

he was telling me this story because the day before i was working at the house..the german man ( i never learned his name) had passed away.....but the two men had become great friends..

also...i am friends with Col Bud Anderson....yeah ive braged about it before...but he was good friends with Gunther Rall up until Rall's death in 09..Bud said that they would get together and visit..spend time at one anothers homes...and went to the BIG european airshows...guess places like Oshkosh aswell..
