GFA Gloster Gladiator

I have this plane in P3D5 installed. It has no copyright information in the files nor a manual and I can't remember where it came from. It has a MK1 and MK2 version and also ski version.

What does GFA mean? Google didn't answer me this question.

Is it commercial or freeware? I couldn't find any payment e-mail in my account nor in my stores where i buy usually. I have the Icarusgold Gladiator but this has different liveries and the cockpit looks different.
Also installed is the freeware from David Molyneaux. It's not this one.

Is there an installer for this plane? I searched my big archive but with Gladiator etc. it was not found. Maybe just a zip file with a name not indicating it's the Gladiator.

The altitude gauge is unreadable while in flight. Don't know why, looks like competing textures in the gauge. I would like to reinstall the plane to fix it maybe. If someone has this plane, can you check the gauge in the cockpit?
The panel.cfg does not contain this gauge. It looks like it's included in the interior mdl file.

Thanks for any hints, Dan

Thanks Priller, yes the description of the FSAddon product matches the one I have in the sim. I searched for "GFA Gloster Gladiator" which did not lead to the Belgian variant. I'm not sure, if this is right, cause the FSAddon features more than only Belgian Gladiators.

If someone has this product, does the Altimeter work fine?

What is the name of the installers .exe file? With the exact name I may find it on my system.

My altimeter is acting funky too, some digital overlay flashing over the analog gauge... But it's not too intrusive and I can live with it (flying it in FSX).

File name is GladiatorX-CS.exe, downloaded July 2023, can't remember from where...

Looking good in FSX too.
Too bad they seem to never have fixed it. Somehow it's mixing the small digits with the big ones. If I knew how panels are made, i gues with Scaleform in this plane, I'd fix it. Yes, it's not the too desturbing, but knowing the altitute is always safe.
With this information, I don't have to reinstall the plane. I couldn't find this installer. Thanks a lot for your help.

Could it due to a missing Font ?
I had this kind of issue already in the past.

My 2 cents

Sounds interesting. How to find the font, if there is no gauge to investigate? Is there somebody with a working altimeter? Which fonts were available in Windows XP and are no longer in Windows 11?

I don't have this aircraft and I am far from my PC, but using MCX, you should be able to list all Fonts used in the model, by searching the "Modeldef editor" output.

I didn't find any fonts in the Modeldef editor but MCX led my to another idea. I saw, the small numbers around the outer cirle are the pressure, which should be shown only in a small segment to the right, not all around. Thought about transparency or opaque but then just tried to recompile the interior mdl as P3D v4.4 object and guess what, it works. That fixed it completely
I don't know if this can be applied to FSX too, by compiling as FSX object but could be well worth a try.

I think a guy named Francois created this addon and I do believe he passed away some time ago and all the links that were functional at the time
are now gone too. There were links to Simmarket to purchase this addon but are also gone. This Francois person was a member of this site and
was author of a few good FSX aircraft addons back then circa 2010.

Francois is still alive! I have him on facebook. He lives in Italy. He had a developer in South Afrika that has made some nice planes. The developer was Simon Smeiman, if I remember his name correctly. He had poor health, due to a heart condition. Francois also publisched Tongass Fjords for fsx.

Hi guys, blast from the past !! Yes, I am the publisher of the FSAddon Publishing aircraft and sceneries. Simon Smeiman was the developer of this aircraft. I have lost all contact with Simon some years ago already. I closed my company after moving to Italy, and had to close the websites too…… too small a pension….. but am still alive and kicking and building my own home cockpit in an old barn now …..

Man, I would love to have this in MSFS!! I used to have it when still doing FSX/P3D, but lost all of my addons after a horrible crash.

  • I installed the FSAddon GFA Gloster Gladiator in the addon folder of P3D V5.4 and everything works fine except for no gun sounds.

    Here is the xml file I built for it:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>GFA Gloster Gladiator</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>Gloster Gladiator</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
    <Category>EFFECTS</Category>
    <Path>Effects</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
    <Category>SimObjects</Category>
    <Path>SimObjects\Airplanes</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    </SimBase.Document>

    As you can see the guns are firing but no sound. If I installed it in the regular simobjects folder with the sound in the sound folder and the effects in the effects folder the gun sound will work. I prefer to install (when possible) theses addons in my addon folder and try to make a custom xml file for it.
