Giant Wind Turbines Bring Down Piper Warrior.

The tip is travelling 12566.37m every minute.

This means it has a velocity of 209.440m/s at 20rpm.

The speed of sound is 343m/s.

RPM required to break the sound barrier at the tip: 32.75rpm.

Unless I've cocked up.

I laughed! :d

(Seriously though, upon reading the thread titel I got ready for a serious discussion between renewable energy enthusiasts and pilots.)

Well done, Skittles. You were first to the correct answer. I wonder how far a 'shed' blade would travel if it failed at the root at 20 rpm.

CheckSix, the turbine was officially opened by Sir Jimmy Saville who 'Fixed It' for the good folk of Dundee to have permanent blade flicker/strobe lighting effects during daylight hours.

Now howz about that then?

CheckSix. Yes, Sir Jimmy is still going strong. Think he might have hung up his running shoes though. I saw him trotting down the A30 (or A303) many, many years ago.
