Gigantic FSX AI ship pack.

Those look gorgeous - esp the Eagle.

Question: these lovely ships are great for our current day environment. Any appetite for even a small number of "period" vessels for a number of simmers who fly in an environment set in the 50s or 60s? With a number of the Calclassic cities / airports either porting over well - and others being converted so they can added into FSX, this could be a really exciting way to "turn back the clock" to match the aircraft we enjoy flying in.

It needn't be anywhere near the volume of the existing packs - I'm thinking a 2-3 cargo ship types x 3-4 textures, 2-3 ocean liners x 3-4 textures - that alone could be a dozen distinct merchant / liner vessels. By substituting those into the AI tracks you've already created, you'd get that 50s/60s merchant vessel experience that could be very interesting. Since you have so much traffic (track volume wise) there is enough material to represent interesting periods of history involving merchant vessels in FSX - Suez, Cuban Missile Crisis, etc.

Ideas for merchant vessels:

Liners ...

I'll bet there are many folks who'd find this really interesting ...

Thanks for considering - but most of all thanks for all the great work you've done so far!

I have considered it - I recently found some useful drawings - and my dad also sailed on a freighter in the fifties, where at least I have decent pictures, so I could get tempted when the last modern day package is out.

Completely OT, but as a kid I crossed the Atlantic on the sister ship to the Ivernia (seen above), the Franconia. That was one great experience. :)

I suppose you spent the journey doing some drawings that I could use as basis for a model :jump: Of course I got tempted and started looking for some drawings today, but no luck - found other interesting ships but nor the Franconia or the Ivernia...

Here are the basic dimensions, from Wikipedia, if that's any help:

Length: 608 ft 3 in (185.39 m)
Beam: 80 ft 4 in (24.49 m)
Draught: 28 ft 6 in (8.69 m)
Speed: 20 kn (37 km/h; 23 mph),

I do have a number of overview images from the web, from which perhaps a good likeness could be had using relational geometry? Any use to you? Even 'close enough' would be nice. :)

What I really need is a good well centered side view - with that I can live without drawings - I was just searching a bit without finding the perfect image, but it must be out there. And I am sure that with a bit more searching it should even be possible to find a drawing :)

The first of the Classic ships is getting ready :) It actually still sails along the Norwegian coast as a museum ship, but it was in regular service until 2012.

and not that old, but still a beautiful cruise ship from when ships were not looking like appartment blocks...

So the project slowly moves ahead - launch for next part expected after the summer :)
