Global Surface Water

This set 001-008 are a multipart zip file. 7-zip will extract them properly if all are in the same folder... just select GSW ShoreLines.zip.001, then choose 'Extract Here' and a "GSW Shorelines" folder will be created and all 8 files unzipped to it's scenery folder. No separate unzipping will work.

Good morning,

Okay, so I have the folders downloaded. How exactly does this new setup work? :dizzy:

Andrew, they are in this order after the mesh layers in the scenery.cfg file:

[Area.015]
Title=Exclude Default VTP
Local=ADDON\Exclude Default VTP
Remote=
Active=FALSE
Required=FALSE
Layer=15

[Area.016]
Title=Global Surface Water
Local=ADDON\Global Surface Water
Remote=
Active=FALSE
Required=FALSE
Layer=16

[Area.017]
Title=Global Surface Water ShoreLines
Local=ADDON\Global Surface Water ShoreLines
Remote=
Active=FALSE
Required=FALSE
Layer=17

Specific geographical scenery layers follow on.

EurW as well as water masks or old water and coast layers have to be deactivated.

Good afternoon,

Looking through my folders...

I have Rhumba's coast flattens from 2002. Keep or toss?

I have Rhumba's coastlines from 2002. Keep or toss?

What about the DEM LOD 5, 7, and 8 layers?

Kevin,

Have you done any experimenting or flying to see how these layers affect Europe and the Med?

Jean Bomber's files in the Mediterranean may need the same treatment...:dizzy:

Hi Andrew,

Keep everything. You need the old files for some Pacific scenery and the newer water masks for other parts. It's a matter of activating and deactivating layers as required - a bit of a nuisance.

I tested the scenery in northern Europe. Nearly all coastal GSL scenery would have to redone and airfields moved. Sander's scenery, may not be as accurate, but it has rivers, canals and roads which the new scenery doesn't have.

The same applies to Jean's scenery in the MTO.

The new scenery is good for parts of the world with little or no CFS2 development. Mongolia is a good example.

I forgot to mention the alphabetical regions land class layers. I haven't tested those as we don't have 26 sets of textures.

I suppose you could activate Region K which is Great Britain and use the EurW textures. I presume these layers have to be used in conjunction with the other three layers, otherwise there will be land and sea in wrong places.

Kevin,

Thanks, I'm going to keep that folder on the shelf for now, then. :encouragement:

The Global Surface water files are ready for download at my URL.

(Maybe Rami can help get them into the Library. The files are very big.)

Dick, Rome wasn't built in a day. Now that file size has been increased to 2 GB, I'll finally start uploading these files shortly.

Cheers,
Kevin

Regions - Regions

These are Region folders for CFS2. They contain landclass files in scenery sub-folders, and textures in texture sub-folders.

Each Region_? folder can be added separately into the scenery Library to alter the default landclass.
Textures are required to display properly.
The textures can be replaced in each region to alter the appearance different parts of the world.

Hi guys ! Rhumba, a quick question here on these. Before my old computer went belly-up I had, IIRC, a similar set of downloads.( I still have them somewhere) Are these completely in lieu of the original sets and can be disregarded (deactivated) ?
