GMax Kako

Damage Boxes in the DP are finished. now on to the rest. I have the basic CFG finished as well. once i have the DP completed i'll add the deck for the cat version.

We need to get someone to do a dress for this lady. She is to good looking not to be finished.

View attachment 85967

I'll do the one for the Aoba once this one is complete. Shouldn't be too hard. just a matter of sizing everything to fit the other model.

New armament .dat

I'm collecting new data on all of the guns. I'm making new armaments .dat files for them.
The Kako and Aoba had roughly the same guns so i'll use the same data for both.

Gun types on the Kako...
20 cm/50 (8") 3rd Year Type No.2
12 cm/45 (4.7") 10th Year Type
25 mm/60 (1") Type 96 Model 1

once i'm finished i'll add them so people can use them with DPed.

I wish we could use torpedos on the ships. I think it would be a Kool "What If" mission, to try and stop a Cruiser torp attack. oh well....

Raw Data...

Some interesting history here. I'll post the link to where I got it all.

Here is the link:

Weapon Comparison...

Here is something interesting.

Here are the specs on three versions of the same gun. They are of the 25mm cannons.

25mm -CFS2 stock
ROF= 0.52, 115.38RPM
Velosity= 922MPS
Range= 7688
Damage= 1d1*20

25mm "Usio no Ibuki's"
ROF= 0.1, 600RPM
Velosity= 923MPS
Range= 3800
Damage= 1d1*35

25 mm/60 (1") Type 96 Model 1
ROF= 0.5, 120RPM
Velosity= 900MPS
Range= 2500
Damage= 1d1*25

I've compared the 5"/12.5cm

5" V1-CFS2 stock
ROF= 12, 5RPM
Velosity= 944MPS
Range= 14538
Damage= 1d1*120

12.7cm "Usio no Ibuki's"
ROF= 4.28, 14.01RPM
Velosity= 720MPS
Range= 9440
1d1*3000

12 cm/45 (4.7") 10th Year Type
ROF= 7.5, 8RPM
Velosity= 825MPS
Range= 5000
Damage= 1d1*300

Just for fun i also compared my 20cm to Usio no Ibuki's

20 cm "Usio no Ibuki's"
ROF= 20.3, 2.95RPM
Velosity= 835MPS
Range= 28000
Damage1d1*10000

20 cm/50 (8") 3rd Year Type No. 2
ROF= 20, 3RPM
Velosity= 840MPS
Range= 8000
Damage= 1d1*8000

I did mine before I looked at the others. I think they will work rather well.

Here is the Armament.dat for all three of my guns...

Minor issues with the Aoba...

I'm working on the Aoba's DP now. Two things need to be done.

1st she needs to be rotated 180deg in top view. right now she would be moving backwards.

next she needs to go to 5.66m unless your doing the early version in which case its 5.71m.

I've done this on my end so i can continue working.

We have to call this one the ship that wouldn't die. She was pounded to Hell and back, yet stayed in the fight until almost the end of the war. she was scraped in 1946-47. A tough old broad you could say.

This is my last night off. so if i don't reply for a day or so don't worry. I'm working 4 strait 12hr night shifts. I'll try to get on each morning like i was earlier in the week. I hope to get the DP done tonight.

one more night to go. I'll work more on the Aoba on my next day off. Its about half finished.

anyone willing to do the textures?

Standard Versions Finished...

The Basic versions for the Kako and Aoba are finished. Both DPs and CFG Files. Next on to the CAT versions.

Stuart,
check your email.

I might need the MDL file to complete the CAT versions. I'd like to test them in game to see how they look. I hope to get them both done in the next day or so.

Fini~

I'm finished with the files.

Stuart,

I've just sent you the finished zip folder. You have all the files needed to create two standard cruisers and two with catapults. I named them IJN_Kako, IJN_Aoba, IJN_Kako_Cat and IJN_Aoba_Cat. You may want to change those if you had different names for the MDLs in mind. I used the same names in the readme as well.

Everything should be in order but I may have to adjust the launch point on the Catapult. I may also have to move the damage boxes if the plane keeps crashing. Once I have a complete MDL I can test them all.

SIDE NOTE: If your interested, I'd like to do so WWI ships with you. I can point you to the 3views that you will need and send some other info to help. Let me know if its something you'd like to do.

Thus ends my portion. This was a fun little project. I hope everyone will enjoy the finished results.

Till later,
John

Well they aren't ships just yet.

I'm tring to draft/enlist/shanghai Allen into getting the textures mapped in GMax and make into a MDL. Then get it to UncleTgt for paint. So we have a little bit to go.

Oh ignore the muted cries in the corner.:icon_twi:

Sorry for not replying

Hi Bloodhawk
Sorry for not replying to the emails, my computer went down on Monday when I was trying to reply to your info on the specs of the 25mm guns, and I didn't get it back until last night.
That was really interesting. I see that Usio's ships have a pretty high rate of fire, and I suspect that was why Pen32Win did some changes to those files.
I see on May 4th that you spotted the Aoba 'back to front'.
It was the same with all 4 models. I have fixed it and I will send them to you via email.
I spotted the problem while I was working on a new model.
I am going to have a go at texturing this new model myself. It will be a bit simpler than the Kako.
There are few things that I want to make sure of before I get into it in detail.
I will ask questions in a separate post. (people are so helpful at SOH, it is really good).
UncleTgt has expressed interest in doing the textures but he needs a mdl file.
From my understanding to make a mdl, a file from FS2002 (or 2004) is required.
I don't have have FS2002.
I would be most happy to have a go at a WWI model. Just give me a name and will get started.
Each time I work on a model I learn something new, the latest being 'extrude'.
Cheers and thanks for all your efforts.

You can export the model using the FS2004 gMax gamepack as a Flightsim Aircraft Object than use MK MDCL to convert it to CFS2.

If you use the FS2002 gMax gamepack you still have to use MK MDCL to convert it to CFS2.

Oops

Hi Allen
I just pressed the wrong button.
Thanks for your help. :jump:
I have just downloaded
'Microsoft® Flight Simulator 2004 includes gmax, a 3D modeling tool from discreet. The gmax SDK contains four separate SDKs, bundled together in one download and install'.
Is this the correct file?
Cheers
Stuart

Nice Work BloodHawk

Hi BloodHawk
Those pics look really good, :applause:love the camouflage.
From the pics I guess that you have made a mdl file??
I have installed the Gamepack for FS 2004.
I can export the model, and get a mdl file, but I don't get a xml file. (I will pester Allen on this one)
Enjoy the weekend John.
Cheers
Stuart
