GMAX OR LOD ?

Folks ;
That will sound like a stupid question, but for the life of me I can't remember the answer ! I ask as I once knew the answer but now CRS ! Trying to save space and whittle down ship folder size and found a lot of Gmax and LOD models of the same ships. So which is best ? All opinions are accepted. :)

.gmax files are like just the gMax source of the ship and are not needed for CFS2.

As Allen said, the .Gmax extension (and .fsc for FSDS2) files are the source files for ships, aircraft, or scenery objects those files are not needed to run CFS2. Also “LOD” (Level of Detail) models are normally built into the .mdl or .bgl and not visible for the sim as separate files. If you are not certain, just store the files as backup and then delete them from CFS2. Then start the sim and see if it works.

As for fsds2: if you look into the aircraft or ship MDL Folder, fsds2 produce for every new compilation of a .mdl a backup file of the old mdl file (look at the picture below) if you find those files with the extension .m00 .m01 and so on, you can delete them (the highest number like .m102 was the last compilation before the final model, those .m00 files are original mdl files with a renamed file extension)
Don't delete the .cfg and .mdl files !

I checked with stuart277 over a year ago about those large GMAX files for the sake of making my campaign self-installer segments smaller. He told me that they could be deleted (as Allen confirms above) without effect.
