Here's a cool video that'll give you an idea of how a catalina is supposed to sound. Those with really good ears or experience on radials can tell how they start them (checklist wise) via this video.

he's got a noisy lifter.. you can hear it when he takes off.. Actually, over all, the sounds seem a bit high pitched, like something the mic had limitations with..
Problem is, i've never been near a Wasp radial engine when it was running, but i have been within five feet ofboth aluminum overcast and none-o-nines when they started those big cyclones..
