Then there's the Cactus Air Force, it's sorta dated and not up to Lundstrom's standards, but it's a good read and I think the only one that covers the whole period. And finally Guadalcanal, The Island of Fire: Reflections of the 347th Fighter Group by Ribert Lawrence Ferguson. He was there and flew P-39's. It is often forgotten that the USSAF had a squadron there.
