Granite Clouds over the High Sierra - MM

A climb to surmount the mountain ridges but thereafter a steady cruise over Salar Uyuni. Clear skies made for easy recognition of the "marker peaks" and approach to airstrip.

Tougher climb than expected, then downhill all the way. Plenty of clouds to hide the Pacific but finally saw Iquique and turned south into NDB approach. Low viz kept the interest high.

Arrived at Salta. Long flight over the Atacama. 40 kts winds and turbulence made for a bumpy ride. Tried to drink a cup of coffee...but found that difficult to handle and finally gave up. The shifting wind gusts created a navigational challenge and I missed my landmarks. (Almost dove into a mountain ridge during one incident when the turbulence knocked the aircraft down 700 feet.) But clear weather, and the radio beacons, made for an easy arrival. Quite a final descent into Salta, eh?

This round is on me!

Congrats on a great run Mike. I have no doubt that Miss Nellie is very pleased with your fine piloting.

I've told barman to start the rounds flowing. We should be in fine form when you arrive.

Thanks, Jeff. I'll need to catch up.

(A bit of turbulence over the Atacama. Snapshots taken in quick succession.)

Congratulations Mike.

Faultless, efficient run in a nice plane, spot on commentaries.
Excellent.
