Grinseed's Flanders Sampler

Ravenna

SOH-CM-2023
I have been researching road networks and airfields around Amiens and have been really impressed by the accuracy of Grinseed's mapping in his Flanders Sampler. I've started to use the photos I have gathered to make GSL scenery for some of these airfields, but I have hit a snag. When I start in Free Flight at Bertincourt, Bruay en Artois and Cappy the altitude of the plane is below the grassed surface of the airfield. In the past when I came across this phenomenon I found I had a scenery conflict and had to delete some scenery. This time I cannot find any conflict.....doubly frustrating since the best photo I have is for Bruay. Grinseed, if you read this (or if anyone else could help) is it possible that your scenery is for a paricular mesh?
I'd like to start at the altitude intended!
cheers,
Mike

Posted most of this reply in my thread, but it belongs here too.

Glad you to hear you appreciate the detail of the sampler. :mixedsmi:
As for your base altitude problem at Bruay, I dont think the FR sampler could be the cause, as it only has data for limited areas south of Doullens and east of Amiens and the airfields of Valheureux, Vert Galant, Bertangles and Villers Bretonneux. Besides its in the very nature of the VTP1 lines and polygons, which the roads and airfields are made from, to automatically adjust to the terrain altitudes of any mesh used, which is why I chose to use the G2k utility in the first place.
I've only been away a few months but its like I have forgotten everything I ever knew about CFS2:isadizzy:...I'm sure it'll all come back to me eventually...I should be of more help then, but could your problem be something to do with a difference between the actual location altitude of your mesh and airbase details in the INFO folder? The contact points of the aircraft maybe?(probably not if you havent had problems with it before)...anyway thats all I'm good for for the moment. Sorry I cant be of more help.

In any case Ravenna email me at bruce4x at yahoo dot com if you'd like any details about Bruay that I have...its a damn hard airfield to find.

What mesh are you using?

I haven't any probs at Bertincourt: The first pic shows the plane at the Bertincourt field (w/o any objects: you can see the Bapaume village in the skyline). The second one is at Bapaume field itself. The tents are following the road Bertincourt-Bapaume, not visible in the pic.

BTW, welcome back, Grinseed: I too was wondering about you :ernae:

Thanks Grinseed,
Could you tell me what mesh you are using? At the moment if I start in the air and land just beside the airfield all is fine, but when I taxi to the grass field I suddenly drop below the surface. At the moment I am using the standard mesh in my WW1 install.

Mike, from memory (& its been a while) the mesh I used for the sampler was from simviation, its the only one sitting in my scenery library (unactivated), but I dont think that will help you any.

Which airfield are you referring to?

If you mean Bruay or Bertincourt or Cappy I dont think I can help you.
EC_ILO (g'day mate :d) has also referred to Bertincourt and shown the pic with Bapaume village on the skyline.
I simply have not done any work at all with any of these fields and I only have one add-on at SOH, for the sampler (which only has data for Valheureux, Vert Galand, Bertangles and Villers Bretonneux, all without any infrastructure).
Have you and EC downloaded the others with the Aerocrate missions perhaps? You might need to contact Gary A or Blondi. None of the work I've done is associated with Aerocrate (yet, at least)

Bertincourt is a WIP from Aerocate (still no infrastructures) and Bapaume -a few miles from Bertincourt- is a GSL WIP from myself. Both are set over the Aerocrate sceneries, and the mesh I use are the Benelux and France ones from Josiah Haut. The roads in the pic are from the Aerocrate scenery ones: as stated by Grinseed is road sampler covers at this moment only a little surface.

Cheers,

EC_ILO

Oops....I seem to have assumed that the Flanders Sampler and Flanders (airfields) are by the same maker. The abovementioned phenomenon (plane dropping below the airfield) happens at Bruay. I suppose that I assumed Bruay to be by Grinseed because of the folder name AND because it fits so well with the sampler road network.
