Ground Textures through the glass

I noticed that whilst looking through the cockpit glass in the VC of my trusty AerealFoundry F-18 Hornet, that the ground textures as viewed from 18,000 feet look as crystal clear as can be. But when looking at them with the jet in the foreground, in the spot view, they are pretty mushy. This has probably been discussed before, but I don't get much chance to view this section much. This is true of a lot of my planes... but not all. I wonder what magic is at work here... in the F-18, that the VC produces such a clear and realistic look of the ground.
