Since Lewis let the cat out of the bag I thought I would update everyone on the progress of the F7F-3 for CFS3.

Here are a list of updates over the old version:
- New gun ports in the nose.
- New oil cooler intakes, they now have a more accurate profile.
- Re-shaped the engine cowls and nacelles to be more accurate.
- Working cowl flaps.
- Working oil cooler flaps that animate along with cowl flaps.
- New more accurate tailhook, works as a spoiler for carrier landings.
- New Mk.8 gunsight in the cockpit.
- New pitot tube model.
- New P&W R-2800-34W engine model.
- New prop hubs.
- Corrected animations for gear and gear bay doors to be more accurate.
- Adjusted smoothing group data for entire model.
- Updated .xdp to reflect new information, namely:
--- Changed ammo load for the .50 cals in the nose to 1,600 rounds.
--- Corrected error in one of the loadouts.
--- Added option to carry three 300 gallon droptanks to loadout.
--- EnteredService date changed, (3/10/1945) reflecting the F-3 model.
- New custom soundset reflecting the twin R-2800 engines.
- Made slight modifications to the textures due to model changes.
- Corrected damage boxes to give it a smaller frontal profile.

I still have a lot more to do but she's getting there! I can't say when the project will be done as it revolves around when I have enough time to work on it, which unfortunately is less than I would like. I'm still not sure how accurate the tailhook section of the model is as I can't find any references that depict the hook assembly from the rear while in the down position. So for now this is my best guess. certainly this is far more accurate than the old one. Skinning should be simple enough, when finished I will include a template/void to make life easier for all you skinners out there.

Greg can you post screenies of the exterior and cockpit. Also will it need to be reskinned or will the current ones still work?

"Here pretty bird, here birdie...."
"Holy beauty queens that-man"..........nice :ernae::medals::medals::trophy::trophy:

A very nice airplane. My I uncle Sam was the first commander of the first squadron of F7-Fs. I certainly hope you put a good shine on her.

Aaaaaugh! I'm gonna loose it! That's too awesome! "There is no charge for awesomeness ...!"

:woot:

I want an Army version...A production version of the XP-65 for the "what if?" scenerio. :friday:

I've fantasized about the P-65 in Europe for my last 3 flight sims!

Yes yes yes

The P&W's and that prop detail... truly amazing.... I'd venture ta say, the best EVER!!:medals::trophy::trophy:
But I wuz wunderin', who is that pilot?
With that narrow face & jutting jaw.... could it be Dick Dasterdly took a shave and came over ta our side??:p:

Are you going to make other versions or will this be it?
As of right now I have no plans to make another version simply due to lack of time. I could possibly make the -3N/-3P versions with just a few modifications to the model but my main goal right now is just to get this one out the door ASAP! The fact that CFS3 really doesn't allow for real radar operation is why I chose the day fighter over the night fighter.

Have you put Headshaker code in that pit, perchance?
As a matter of fact I have! In the cockpit view you can switch between three different views including a "G-view". It works really well with the new gunsight!

You may be on to something there...

About the VC, I have multiple reference photos and information but only for the -3N/-3P/-4N models. I have only ONE decent reference for the cockpit of the -3 model. If anyone has any better references for the -3 model pit please let me know! This photo is what I will be basing my model on (note the checklist and another paper in place of gauges and the lack of a gunsight and manual gun reloading handles):
