GSL Mediterranean Ports - Part I released!

Reply...

Hello,

Just in time for Christmas, I finished Trieste this evening. :biggrin-new:

Merry Christmas Andrew,

My one's the same. I think Sander didn't quite complete the far southern extremity of Europe. I have the same problem with Corsica, as I'm using Jean Bomber's Corsican coast beta pack.

All the best for the new year - keep those port sceneries coming.

Kevin

Kevin,

You mean like these?

Good evening,

Here is a real rough sketch of Naples harbor with the basic-bare-bones layout completed. A lot more to go, though.

Very nice work, Rami. I am going to download more scenery eventually and I especially like the scenery you and the team did and are currently working on. Thank You!

Here is Naples...

Good evening,

This is Naples. This was a tricky one...because I had to include Captain Kurt's rail yard and the GSL airfield at Capodichino. The harbor and Naples proper was around 1,350 objects, a little less than I thought it would be. I made some minor deletions around the harbor to keep the size down slightly.

Coming up this weekend...

Good morning,

I just wanted to let you know that this weekend, I will be releasing my portion of the MTO ports package which has been completely overhauled and redone. This will not be all of the improvements, but a significant portion of them. Most of the ports from Trieste westward have been completely overhauled and redone over the last several months, and there are a couple of new ones. I will try to include as many of the objects as I can to lessen the user workload.

The ports I will release this weekend are...

Sicily: Licata, Messina, Palermo.

Italy: Naples, Trieste.

Libya: Derna, Benghazi, Tobruk, Tripoli.

Egypt: Alexandria.

Algeria: Bougie, Bône.

Albania: Valona.

Greece: Athens, Khalkis, Salamis, Thesaloniki, Volos.

Crete: Souda Bay.

In deference to Dombral, I will release a second pack in a few weeks (I am waiting for a few airbases) called "Dombral_Med_suite" under his name to give him the credit he deserves for much of the Mediterranean scenery he has teased us with in his screenshots for years. I have worked with them and turned them into GSL. These include...

Algeria: Algiers.

France: Toulon, Marseille, Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël.

Italy: Genoa, Imperia, Porto Maurizio, Savona, Vado Centro, Venice, Marghera.

Djibouti: Djibouti City.

Morocco: Safi

Tunisia: Bizerte, Tunis.

Captain Kurt's scenery for the 82nd Fighter Group only enhances this effort, especially on Sardinia and Corsica.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery Add-Ons

Description: This is a scenery support package for the MTO which allow you to have permanent destroyable scenery, specifically ports, at twenty-one locations.

These ports include the following locations...

Albania: Valona.

Algeria: Bougie, Bone.

Egypt: Alexandria.

Greece: Athens, Khalkis, Souda Bay, Thessaloniki, Volos.

Libya: Benghazi, Derna, Tobruk, Tripoli.

Sardinia: Cagliari, Olbia

Sicily: Palermo, Licata, Messina.

Tunisia: Tunis.

Italy: Naples, Trieste.

Many of these ports are updates or overhauls of my previous GSL ports package dating back to 2011 / 2013, but two are brand-new, (Messina and Naples) while several others (Palermo, Bone, Trieste, and Tunis) have been relocated and entirely rebuilt from the ground up. However, the Greek & Albanian ports, as well as Licata, were left untouched.

In addition, Captain Kurt was kind enough to allow me to include and spruce up his GSL ports for the 82nd FG campaign he released in 2014, & Kdriver was generous enough to create seaplane takeoff points for several of these locations. Entries for your airbase.dat file have been provided, along with a new "Master" airbase.dat file which contains all airbase.dat entries for the theatre.

Please note that unlike previous editions of these GSL ports, all possible objects that I obtained have permission to include have been added, to greatly lessen the work of the user. This includes airfields whose GSL gobs were combined with the ports because they overlapped.

FYI...

Good morning!

1) Thanks, Stef. :very_drunk:

2) You my notice in the "Important scenery" .pdf file that there is a small typo with regard to the location of the file. It should be the SCENEDB\World\Scenery folder, not "SENEDB\World\Scenery." I'm sure that most of you figured that one out quickly.

Such is life when you write these things at 5am...

A good chance for a slapstick line....

Well... considering CFS2 age, a reference to its senility might be appropriate....... :biggrin-new:

Cheers!

Wonderful!

Just downloaded it. This looks like a great new addition. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication. It is appreciated.

Thank you Rami - you spoil us. The med was nice already, now even more impressive.

Great work ! A must-have for any MTO install :applause:

One question though (please forgive my dumbness) :

I understand that I may install Achim's airbases first, then update them with the files you provided. But if I wish I may install your files WITHOUT having to install Achim's airbases at all.
Then, there would be two possible install procedures :
This one :
1> Your MTO install guide (with SdC's, Rhumba's, Brunosk's and Jean Bomber's files)
2> Achim's airbases
3> Your GSL ports
Or this other one :
1> Your MTO install guide
2> Your GSL ports

Am I right ?

Sorry again if my question sounds a bit dumb, but I'd like to be sure I do all the steps in the correct order...

A superb contribution Rami and much appreciated. This is foundation level work for great things to come, and I see a long life ahead for CFS2 because of this level of devoted upgrading to the sim.

thank you.

Roxanne21,

A good question. Yes, I would install Achim's bases first for these areas. I did provide those airfields whose work overlaps mine, (Achim's bases in Tobruk and Bengasi are an example) but to make it easier on yourself, I would install the airfields first.

It's kind of like a layer cake, I know.

Thank you. I will install everything that way. :encouragement:

Hi Rami!

Thank you for the new Mediterranean Ports! They fit nicely into my current campaign project!

I have one question: In your Greek campaigns there are several GSL files, e.g. "Dodecanese_campaign.gsl", "Operation_Marita.gsl". Is all the GSL scenery from these files included in your new ports package, or di I still need them anyway?

Skylane,

The GSL ports is a cover-all that includes everything. I included those specific campaign GSL files because I only wanted you to expend the effort on what you need for that campaign.

Also, I have GSL files available for the Southern coast of France, including Marseille and Toulon, as well as Genoa, Venice, Bizerte, Algiers, Djibouti, and Turin. Please let me know if you need them...they are available, I am just awaiting some finishing pieces from Achim.

Rami,

Thanks for the clarification.

My project is centered on Sicily, so there is no hurry with the other ports at this time.

I checked out Messina, Palermo and Naples this afternoon. They look great!

Thanks again for your work!
