GSL ports released...

GSL problems...and fixes!

To all,

After releasing my GSL ports, I discovered that with a few of the larger ones, there were problems with some of the objects not showing up. I went back and looked at the .pdf instruction guide that comes with Martin Wright's GSL editor, and realized that I forgot to run the Gob check to see if the layout files were too large. It turns out they were, which is why some of the objects weren't showing up.

In the new version, the GSL files for Central London, St. Malo, and Nantes / St. Nazaire have been split into at least two parts to reflect this. You still use GSLMan to put them into your GSL file, so nothing about the installation process has changed, and they will not override each other.

I also took the liberty of adding the GSL files from Chianti (Great Yarmouth and Harwich) as well as the new Port of Wilhelmshaven.

I've also got a handful for the Mediterranean that I've tested, but I'll wait to upload those until tomorrow or Monday. They include Alexandria, Bone, Bejaia, Tunis, Palermo, Tripoli, and Kralsuvica.

To all,

I revamped my fourth layout package, the only GSL scenery included is the Hawker aircraft factory, the layouts are only for factories and other facilities, aside from the Port of Calais, which is configured for use by the Allies and the Germans, but is not GSL.

All GSL ports are now contained in a new package, seventeen of them in all. They include the following locations...

England: Central London, Dover, Great Yarmouth, Harwich, Portsmouth, and Ramsgate.
France: Nantes, St. Malo, St. Nazaire.
Germany: Wilhelmshaven.
Libya: Tripoli.
Egypt: Alexandria.
Tunisia: Tunis.
Algeria: Bejaia, Bone.
Sicily: Palermo.
Yugoslavia: Kralsuvica.

I hope you enjoy these!

Hi,

Has anyone had any major problems with installation? Also, did I miss anything in the readme? Some feedback when you have the chance would be greatly appreciated.

Just For Clarification...

As I was looking at these last night, I noticed that earlier editions of some of your England layouts already existed in my BoB setup -

England: Central London, Dover, Great Yarmouth, Harwich, Portsmouth, and Ramsgate

Are your newest versions supposed to replace these older ones, or are they the same ?

BTW - the work is AWESOME - I really like having actual THINGS to fly over, and not just Ground....

sc7500,

That's an excellent question! Allow me to clarify...

Ramsgate, Harwich, Great Yarmouth, and Dover are the same.

For all the others, I would override the GSL files with the new ones. Central London had to be split into four separate GSL files for all of the buildings and objects to show up, and both Nantes / St. Nazaire and St. Malo had to be split into two GSL files for the same reason.

You shouldn't have to take out the old gobs before doing this, simply overwriting them should be sufficient.

Thanks Rami! Between your efforts and my little escapades at scenery building I've got quite a few nice targets to bomb, destroy and otherwise molest.

my little escapades at scenery building.

Jagd,

Would you ever consider sharing? Your refineries on Sumatra made me a bit envious...I'm hoping that our escapades and releases may help to inspire others.

That's also why I released sets of layouts for airfields, rail yards, aircraft factories, refineries, and other infrastructures. I want to assist aspiring MB writers into just working on the missions and not having to worry so much about building infrastructure, that will cut down a bit on the learning curve.

Ettico and you were actually the ones that inspired me...I got into this because it was a lot of effort to build them just for a single mission, it kind of seemed like a waste!

You'se guys are gonna get me back into scenert/airfield building again. :) I'm thinking about re-doing Maskrider's Pilippines I and II in GSL. :isadizzy:

HEAR! HEAR!

Thank you indeed, Rami!

Cheers!

There, now it's more like it!

When I first replied to this thread today I was at work, another class was taking place in the lab and I had to leave the pc to the other teacher. I had just the time to include an applauding smilie only, instead of the crowd you deserve for your dedication, Rami!

Now I feel better. :wiggle:

Cheers!

Rami, will this install work without the install of Rhumbaflappy’s LOD 5, 7, and 8 mesh, and the water masks? The mesh download is a bit large for my puter download setup at this time. Could I add the mesh later afer the gsl install? Thanks in advance.

Oglivie,

As long as you have Sander's files, along with Jean Bomber's beta Mediterranean coastlines, it SHOULD work just fine. The LOD mesh just enhances scenery detail, and Rhumba's watermasks are overridden by the other files in these areas.
