is it possible to get the rear guuner to fire on a sbd etc?also can you man the gun positions on a heavy bomber or get the gunners to fire them?

Usually you can get all the guns to fire on your plane but often the function is divided between different stick buttons. On my stick the usual trigger controls forward firing guns and a top button controls the others but it is not always that way. One of the first things I do when I install a new plane is put it in "spot plane" view by hitting the S key and once there try all the buttons to see what controls what.

As for defensive guns on a bomber, you can't aim them except to turn the whole plane so in effect you have no real defense. But AI bombers do have effective defense and will track and shoot an attacker with individual guns. So when I plan a mission where I will fly a bomber I usually put at least one wingman in close trail to provide my defense.
