Guys I have a question about the Alphasim Rutan 61 Long E-Z

Guys I have a question about the Alphasim Rutan 61 Long E-Z, was thinking on purchasing it, but read a thing about the trim when it first came out. Is this a problem or do you just need to keep her trimed well. Any input will be appreciated please!!! Thanks

I love it. It does require a little more trimming, but it feels right for a canard configuration. It will take just a little getting used to (especially when changing speed rapidly), but it's great fun and a joy to fly once you've gotten it down. I fly the EZ often and have never regretted the purchase.

Flight model on it is really good. Real one flies a little different from most too. Like Killbilly said, it's very trim sensitive on airspeed changes and less so on pitch changes.

Don't have my real one anymore, but that silver and red one is as close as I can get to being back in it. Dan did a wonderful job on this plane.

cheers,
steve

There are issues with some users where the aircraft has a tendency to bank left all the time requiring constant readjustment. You can trim it out with a bit of practice but personally I lost interest.
The model is good don't get me wrong but I found the aircraft uninspiring.

While writing the review for Nick's site (here: http://www.screenshotartist.co.uk/alphasim_rutan_review.htm) I had continuous problems with the roll issue but not pitch trim. The only pitch trim issues I had were caused by having to hold the stick to one side to counteract the roll. As has already been said, though, the canard surfaces are very responsive, so you do have to be aware of them. it doesn't take long to learn, though.

Never a prob for me - even with all the realism sliders on full. One of the better Alphasim products IMHO.

Thanks guys I think i'm going to get it, been eyeballing it for some time, the lay out of the cockpit is to my liking, with joystick on right and throttle on left. And having the three D Garmin is way to cool!!!!
Thanks again!!!!!

I love that plane. Its one of my fave top 10.

Remember, not all actual aircraft are easy to control. Ever been in a ride in a twin Baron or a Piper Cheroke? Goodness... What a radical ride. Yawing is always going on as the props fight each other. Some low wings are horrible to keep going straight. The Trinidad fights to go up as it passes through 150 knots, climbing to 200, needing moderate trim.

The AS Rutan is gentle and almost flies itself. You can do some little home adjustments to improve the handling if you want. Go to the Flight Tuning section on the aircraft config file, go to Rudder Trim Effectiveness, Roll Stability, and give them some increase in their settings.

I find myself always making some lite adjustments to aircraft. I also painted this one in Ferrari Red, (actually its Guards Red from Porsche, but with Ferrari decals). :d

Great plane. Love the VC too.

Prepare for landing. You will need that spoiler. Try to back off on your speed before going onto final. That will help slow down this sleek little bird.

+1 that's about the size of it.

I haven't flown it in a while. Not because there is anything wrong with it, just that there are so many good products.

I do think I had to assign aileron trim to some buttons on my X52 that took care of any tendencies to fight with me.

Got it, great model, good frames too, but yes the roll thingie is a pain. The VC is just Great, with the swing out GPS.Will be flying this one alot!!!!

Marvin, my real one could get unbalanced too, but we managed it with fuel balance. Unlike the virtual Long, mine only had left and right selectors for the fuel valve. You'd draw fuel out of the heavy side. Can do the same in this one.

We still don't know what is causing the roll problem. I've only had it happen to me once. I have never ever been able to reproduce it, either during beta testing or after release.

Got the roll prob, taking care of with trim, She is finicky with throttle settings but if you keep on top of it, it's not bad. Having a prob. getting the autopilot to pick up the GPS, but will look in to it more later.
Great little plane and fast too!!!

I've never gotten it, period.

I love my EZ, and it turns out I have seen one in real life (although I was unaware at the time, I was looking through pics and, whala!)

There was one based at the field where I used to fly, which was built by its owner and, from what was said by the staff at the flying club, no-one but the owner would go near it with a bargepole, after seeing how it was constructed!

It always seemed to fly, though, and always landed - although the shopping trolley wheel on the front was far from stable when doing so.

One thing I tried during my tests was only using the port tank to feed from and, eventually, it did stop rolling left, but only when the tank was virtually empty and the starboard tank still full. The only way of stopping the roll, practically, was aileron trim (which then of course limits your control movement beyond that, but not massively).
