Thanks to my raid 0 array and virus that destroyed boot files, I had to reinstall windows on a clean hard drive, thus I now have two 250gb drives instead of my 500gb raid 0 array. Sigh.....where to begin? There is so much I need to reinstall. I do have a backup cd of important files...but music, videos, flight sim addons....pretty much all gone. Any suggestions as to where I should begin?:isadizzy:

How come you aren't going back to Raid 0. I would start by using a program to wipe all data off the hard drives, go into the BIOS and set up Raid 0, if you are using W7 it will auto detect your Raid array. I would also invest in a external hard drive to back up everything I want to save. What virus protection program where you using.

I'd suggest starting with a better backup solution in future to avoid you having to reinstall everything. Perhaps use something like Acronis Trueimage every so often and clone your drives onto an external 1TB drive and then if the worst should happen you just have to restore your system from your most recent image.

I have always stayed away from RAID 0 for any home system for the very reason that any failure on either drive will bork everything, I have not found a good reason yet to use RAID 0? I suppose if hard drives were more costly and space was a prime concern I would think differently, but with 2TB drives in the $100.00 range I am sticking to RAID 1. This is just my opinion though, no reason in particular other than my preferance.

I second Moe's comment on the external drive, the best money you could possibly spend as far as backup and protection goes, I have a nice little 500GB and I use MS SyncToy to keep my important stuff up to date, works great and so easy once it is set-up.

Good luck CrazyPants, as for where to start, (after FSX of course) I would go with any addon scenery, and get all that installed before I started on the aircraft.

The only RAID setup I had, many long years ago now, was a RAID 1 ... Zero just didn't seem secure enough for me, when it came to recovery options as you're finding out.

I'd seriously consider RAID 1.
