'Half Size' T2 Hangar

Charter Member
Do we have a 'Half Size' T2 hangar in the sim. These were 41.28m long rather than 73.03m for the standard and were used on some Fighter Command and smaller airfields.

If not, has anyone access to the original GMAX. They had the same width and height - just shorter.

Have'nt got any photos to hand but do have the Defence Estates T2 Appraisal and Drawings of the main T2 full size Type which I attach.
Each bay of the T2 was 3175mm so the 'Half Size' had 13 instead of 23.
I managed to take these plus the drawings of many other types of hangar off the internet before they were withdrawn.

Thanks Gordon. In the meantime I've shortened the existing gmax model which is attached.

The textures have never been very good and the short version uses the same ones. With the docs you've provided I'll revisit those sometime.

Many thanks Clive will be very usefull when I finish collecting data and get back to airfield modelling after my long layoff.
This question came about when looking at RAF Tiree which had 10 of these by 1945 and an interesting war record in No. 15 Group Coastal Command as follows:
Coastal Command: The base focused on maritime patrols, protecting convoys, and air-sea rescue.

224 Squadron: Flew Hudsons for anti-submarine and rescue missions (April-July 1942).

304 (Polish) Squadron: Flew Wellingtons for Coastal Command (May-July 1942).

518 Squadron: Arrived in 1942 for vital weather measurement flights over the Atlantic, using Halifax aircraft, crucial for operations like D-Day.

281 Squadron: Operated from 1944, flying Ansons and Warwicks.

Many of the Strike Force missions had lifeboat equipped Warwicks attached to try and assist the Mosquito and Beaufighter crews but too few survived a ditching as these aircraft both had poor escape routes and survival in these northern waters might only be a few minutes.

I've got models of the 14, 17, 18, 23 and 26 bay T-2 models, in both open and closed versions. Ready to go, 4 LODs, in bare metal, green and black cladding. From the base model I should be able to produce any number of bays.

@Clive: is that my model you got or are there two around?

I didn't know that you had one either 😂😂 - Or I must have forgotten that.
Just checked: They're both in ETO! Yours is probably the "ACC_Hangar_T2", mine definitely are the ones with the long, but hopefully descriptive, suffixes 😂.

I could/should update most of my building textures and models now that we have the possibility of adding normal maps and I have learned some more about material possibilities in gmax. At least a normal map for the corrugated metal cladding seems a interesting improvement.

You guys let me know if I can supply you with anything!

PS. The 13-bay isn't in ETO but like I said, I can create one with relative ease.

Hi Joost. The one thing that stands out when going through the data for Scottish airfields is the number of hangars and blisters. The weather would make unprotected servicing difficult and many had training or servicing duties with large complements of aircraft. The Strike Wing bases were also packed with upto 3 squadrons each of Beaufighters or Mosquitos plus ancillary flights for training and communications. Attached is a list of the hangars to be found at the Scottish airfields in 'Strike Force' (Clive might have to lie down after reading this). Peterhead and Skeabrae are listed as having 5 to 13 'Teeside' in my reference books but not what Type but as these hosted fighters and were quite numerous were likely either T1, T3 or possibly 13 bay T2. I cannot find Sumburghs listed anywhere so will need the RAFM plan as will the last two to identify.

Don't believe we have a C1 Type (1938 Austerity); Type L; T3; 13 Bay T2 or Callender Hamilton hangers in the sim. If anyone can help build these I am sure it would be appreciated. Defence Estates plans of the numerous hangar types can be found here: ; or I have copies of the over 50 designs from the original 2008 DE post. The Type 27 Pillbox was also a common feature for all military installations (these tend to be the last structures still extant) with Leuchars having some 20.

The RNAS hangars are not represented in CFS3. Scotland was home to many naval airfields which trained pilots for the escort and fleet carriers plus maritime reconnaissance and convoy protection . Being the senior service these usually were found with 4 runways (1 short for carrier style operation) and some particular buildings including 3 storey Watch Towers.

Joost, it would be great if you can update the building textures once the P-47 masterpiece is finished. The little 'ACC_ME-Plinth_01' sadly missed out on a texture but appears multiple times on most airfields (beaten of course by Latrines!!).

That's quite a wishing list you got there! Lucky for me it's a long time til X-mas 😂.

About the M&E plinth, I found a texture in its ETO folder, but it's the wrong one (although named correctly). Attached you'll find the correct model package. Should be drag & drop but delete its ETO .bdp file. Let me know if it doesn't work. BTW, it is LOD'ed but it hasn't damage and rubble states yet.

Downloaded your HANGARS.txt: If you go through the 'buildings'-folder in ETO, I think you'll find that a lot of the hangers you'd like, are already there. I can find the following:

- Miskins blister standard
- Miskins blister double
- Miskins blister triple
- Miskins blister over
- MIskins blister extra over - don't think I have done that one yet
(some of those seem double entries, likely both Clive's and mine)

- T2
(As said before, plenty of T2s but perhaps not the number of bays required)

- Bellman
(but just one size and I am not perfectly happy with that. You could try using them as a placeholder until the correct one is ready)

- Belfast
(the only Belfast truss I know are Clive's. There are several sizes, it seems)

I have not done any of the big ones like the L, K and J-types but I do have a B1.

Perhaps this helps, I have an overview of all buildings I did over the years:

Hangars, earthworks etc:
- Blast Shelter for 50 persons
- Bombing Teaching Building
- CH Protected Block
- Dinghy Shed
- Dispersal Pen (fighter size)
- Earth Traverse 2x (for bomb storage areas)
- Fabric Store
- Fire Tender Shed
- Flight Line Shack (wooden, built out of crate material etc.)
- Flood Light Trailer Shed
- Gun Pit (circular)
- Hangar B1
- Hangar Bellman
- Hangar Miskins blister, double, triple
- Hangar Miskins blister Over
(all Miskins hangars in fully open, half open and closed states)
- Hangar T2 14, 17, 18, 23 and 26 bays, ( with both open and closed doors)
- Flight Office (Hut, Temporary Brick)

I don't have the official building design numbers at hand but I could probably find them, if needed

I could also create such an overview of my tent models but I haven't come to that yet. There are at least 7 different models.

All the previous stuff might need some reviewing, updating and additional textures such as the aforementioned normal maps etc. I think a lot of this already is in ETO. You can view the models through the CFS3 model viewer. How to open that is explained in the knowledge thread in the stickies.
If you use gmax to create facilities, it might be useful to use dummy objects the size of the in-game .m3d models if you don't have access to the original gmax source files. Name them according to their in-game counterparts and they should appear in CFS3 after adding your facility to the sim. I can you the sizes of most models, if needed.
