Handley Page Hampden Version 2 Update

tommieboy

SOH-CM-2025
Virtavia has posted an update to the Handley Page Hampden. It's a free update to existing owners; you have to download the update from the vendor that you purchased the product from. I flew the snot out of this one in FS2004, and it's nice to see the FSX tweaks that this Version 2 update brings. You should note this from Virtavia's website: "this is not a new release, this is an updated 2007 model, it does not have present-day features or quality, especially in the cockpit." Still, I really like what I have seen so far, it's like an old friend coming home to stay. I never thought I would ever see this one updated for FSX. :encouragement:

I can hardly remember what day it is let alone where I bought the Hampden from 9 years ago:dizzy: That's about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike I'm afraid Tommy. A nice gesture from Virtavia but have they really thought about this??

Love to get the update but I too bought the Hampden some years ago and probably through the Alphasim site.

Going by the date on my zip.. I've nailed my purchase email down to 2. No sign of it on my Hotmail account (that's no guarantee I've not deleted it.. unlikely I would have done so though) and the other address (BT) I moved from 4 years ago. I've fired an email off to Phil in the hope he can link a purchase to that address.

I purchased the original model some years ago on the Alphasim site which no longer exists. Not sure what I'm supposed to do?

Mike..

Send Phil an email with as much info as you have (I sent him my purchase email address) and if he has it.. he'll send you a link. Got mine this morning:encouragement:

If you don't own it yet, the 4th of July sale at PC Aviator is still on, so you can get it for a mere $5.38 if you are quick.. :mixed-smiley-010: Not the updated version yet, but that should happen soon I guess.

Doesn't look bad does it Roger.. other than the shape with is HP's fault and nothing to do with Alpha/Virtavia:biggrin-new:

Have always been a big fan of the HP Hampden. One of the first books I ever read (way back in the '70's) about Bomber Command concerned operations in a Hampden - by a fellow named Oxley.

Didn't realise there was a model available for FSX. Thanks for that link Ferry_vO. I'll grab it from them, then get the upgrade! Woohoo! :)

Now, if only there was an Armstrong Whitworth Whitley available it would complete the trio of early Bomber Command bombers. Have an autobiography book on operations in the Whitley too. Ugly as sin to look at, but for some reason I'm fascinated by the early British bombers. :)

I noticed that the Version 2 Update has a different folder setup than my earlier AlphaSim release.

The AlphaSim release installed in two aircraft folders, whereas the Virtavia Version 2 installs in a single aircraft folder. Furthermore, the Virtavia version lacks fltsim entries for the default model and texture.1 textures for B.Mk.1, 185 Sqn., Cottesmore, 1939.

Not a big deal, but it has me curious. Anyone else notice this?

Yup. The Alpha release (and v1) contained 3 model variants over two main folders. The v2 model contains 6 models in one main folder. Win, win:encouragement:

Looks very interesting! Is there a 44 sqn paint?

The advances in aviation which happend during that time period is just amazing. 15 years after the Hamden, HP made their last bomber, the very advanced Victor long range jet bomber. Compared to the Hamden it looks more like a spaceship! 15 yers in the avistion business today will not even bring a design from prototype to active service..

Hi JensOle:wavey:

Paints included are 489Sqn, 415Sqn, Torpedo Development Unit, 1404Sqn (MET) Coastal Command and 114Sqn;)

6 models huh.....

I just checked my aircraft.cfg and default model and texture.1 were not listed, so I had to add another entry for this one to show up. This model has bomb racks under the wings.

Does this one show up for anyone else? If so, can you post your aircraft.cfg entry here, so I can copy it to my aircraft.cfg. Currently, I am not sure what type on for the squadron, etc..
