Hanvey & Barry Hawker Tempest II repaints?

I ran across these IAF paints on airliner.net ... I'm hoping I'm doing this right (only supposed to link, not actually show, their images, right???)

Anyway, these give good clues as to what the RAF planes would likely have looked like prior to handover to Indai, since the majority of the literature says India did little else apart from changing the roundels. These nicely-preserved IAF models really show up the bare metal quite nicely.

Anyway, just thought it would be nice to post these.

:caked: Doh - poor word choice on my part. Obio said he was contemplating it, and had started to do fuselage lines - all I meant was that I appreciated him considering it. Obio, sorry if that sound like presumption that you were indeed going to.

I'm going to do some skins for the Tempest II...including the bare metal one. Will take some time getting a decent looking bare metal effect as the plane does not have reflective textures.

Not sure when I will have them done...as usual I have a good number of projects underway...can never seem to get the hang of doing one project until completion before I start 6 more projects...and a pretty full "real life" schedule.

There may be a break through on the bare metal Tempest II skins...along with adding reflective textures to other planes that do not support reflective textures. Ivan Hsu's MDLC progam can add reflection texturing to MDL files, but with a snag or two. I had been scratching my head on finding a fix for those issues, with no luck. Luckily there are about 5.9 billion people on the face of the earth who are smarter than me, and one of them, JDTinballs, has found a way to fix those issues. Not sure if it will work on all planes, but there is hope that it will work on many. I just ran the Tempest II mdl through MDLC to give it reflective texturing....then slapped together a quick alpha channel for it...and man does that reflective bare metal look good on that plane. I have not attempted to correct the wonky VC panel and prop blur yet...but will take a crack at doing so in the next couple days. With luck, the Tempest II will become a reflective bird. If so, I will contact Havney and Barry for their permission to upload the tweaked MDL file.

Dude - you have no idea how thrilled I am. Thanks - and I look forward to it. I have ordered the Warpaint Series #55 on this particular plane - some nice metal RAF postwar / pre handover profiles and info. Once I get it, I'll post what I find for you ... :)

Doing some hex editing, I was able to fix the wonky VC panel and prop blur...the Tempest II is not a fully reflective bird. I fired e-mails off to Dave Hanvey and Paul Barry to get permission to upload the modified MDL here, on Flightsim.com and AVsim.com. This will open up this plane to a lot more repaints. I can't remember if the Sea Fury MB11 is reflective or not...will have to check it out and give it reflective textures if it doesn't have them already.

Once I get the repaint template done, in Photoshop 5.0, I will upload it here for anyone to use to do repaints for the Tempest II.
