Has anyone here set-up and tried 3D VR?

As understand it, recent technological improvements have reached the point where 3D graphics are now available to use with VR headsets?

Other than that, I have not done any research, but will be for certain. I wanted to ask if any SOH members have set this up and can report how it is?

Chief, first you will need a VR headset. You probably know that. There are several really good ones out there. Meta Quest 3 is very popular. I have a Valve Index and never looked back. Once you have that set up, MSFS will recognize it and you can start flying immediately. Doing is the best thing you can do for setting the small adjustments. I love flying in VR. Looks to me like one is there.

Never fly without my Quest 3 (except when flying real-life gliders :) ).

The sensation of being in the cockpit is a whole different ball-game.

Drawbacks include possible motion sickness (not happened to me in 4 years of VR) and reduced display sharpness.
If you fly in outside view all the time to admire the artwork and count rivets it's not so good, if you fly modern cockpits with tiny script MFDs also not so good. But there is nothing I've wanted to fly that I couldn't.

I do have a Quest 3, but my post has to do with a recent software change that allows for improved 3D capabilities, which is what I'm curious as to whether anyone on SOH has tried it.

"The latest Horizon OS v78 update significantly enhances the passthrough camera API, transforming what was once a developer-only tool into a surprisingly capable entry-level 3D camera. While this doesn’t change what users see inside the headset, it opens up exciting possibilities for developers, content creators, and VR enthusiasts"
Nope, not tried it...

Yes, I am using 3D VR, it's a mod for OpenXR toolkit which allows you to adjust the stereoscopic parameters of the software changing the 3D perception through the headset, in order to make it work you need to drop the FOV to around 90%. It's an amazing change to VR however it does take some getting used to for some people as some experience a cross eyed sensation which the higher you go on the 3D setting it can feel that way. I am running a Quest 3 over Virtual desktop & the mod works perfectly. My settings are very high & I have had to adjust my world scale quite a bit due to changes in that area once the FOV & 3D mod have been activated. One major benefit I have noticed is the extra detail & sharpness I am getting. It's like looking at something & having that real world targeted focus that your eyes naturally do. I have my 3D setting maxed out at 100%, FOV is 82-85% however I wear glasses so me eyes are further away from the lenses so I can get away with more FOV narrowness before I can see the screen edges in my headset. I have been messing with the MOD since it first came out a couple of weeks ago so It's definitely an experimental process of seeing what feels right per person & per system. I run a 1070Ti & am getting 36-37 FPS capped with smooth flight & the clarity with the MOD as I have it set now is totally brilliant, it's like real flying, clarity, depth perception & that sense of height flying over trees & terrain that you get in the real world looking down. I highly recommend giving it a go, it may not be for everybody but for me & quite a few other VR fliers it has been a total game changer! YouTube videos & MOD link in description...

A most excellent explanation! I thank you for this. I too am using a Quest 3. GPU is a 4090. I also wear glasses, but bought prescription lenses for the headset.
