This poll appears occasionally in this forum. It's been quite a while since the last one.
Another has been recently started at SimV but has had little response, so as we are much more active here, I thought I'd try it once again:



I have created this poll because I feel that history, which is invariably written by the victor of a confrontation; should none the less be represented by both sides of the opposing parties as this better illustrates the perspective of each side.

As an example: I'm certain that everyone has at least flown the stock CFS2 USN campaign once. However; how many of you have flown the complete IJN camp.?

I had not, until prompted by a similar poll in this forum several years ago. I gained much insight into what it was like to be a Japanese pilot; while fighting for My Emperor as: "Dirty-san".

In the initial phase of this war I experienced the feeling of invincibility as "our" Army and Naval forces easily conquered the Pacific; sweeping aside the pitiful resistance of those: "Capitalist Dogs" and there-by creating a much needed: "co-prosperity sphere" with MY NATION as the Rightful Leader.

But as the war progressed and the tide shifted to the Allies; I began to experience the utter hopelessness and futility that the IJN pilots must have felt when a handful of Oscars and Zero's went up to face a sky filled with B-29's and their newly designed escorts ... on their way to destroy My Emperor, my homeland and my loved ones.....


I love CFS2 because it provides me the "thrill of aerial combat" but I have also found it to be an excellent vehicle in which to PERSONALLY re-live history from both sides.

This something completely unique to the Combat sims and which I find lacking in the FS series.
I think this is the reason many that had left us for FS in the past, are now returning.

Just a reminder guys: Engaging: "auto-pilot" during combat is NOT RECOMMENDED!

I have not flown the Japanese side. I seem to pick a plane and stick with it. Now I am using P40, and making some missions. I guess we all find a lot of info about the Japanese side when we go looking for a certain Zero skin, or ship, or trying to find info about bases. I have often "wasted" many hours, reading stuff I was not looking for when I started. We should of had CFS2 in school, it would have made learning ww2 history much more enjoyable! Good point, Simon. I've died so damned many times flying the USN side that I never finished NOR did I even get to the IJN side. I'd go through periods where I'd try it as realistically as possible......'Once I'm down, that's it'....no 'resurrections'.........I've gotta tell ya, those didn't last long, so I'd go back to my 'live and learn' method.....'resurrections 'til I get it right'.

I can remember flying great missions, only to have something happen during landing, and would have to start again.....go back maybe 5 or 10 missions and start the whole thing all over again.....talk about a b****ll breaker!.......but what fun! My carrier landings were OK about 1 outta 10 because by the time I got back, all I wanted to do was hit the 'X' button and make a coffee.....ahhh, maybe I'll have another go at it one of these days.
 
I have flown both but I have to admit it took me a month to complete both campaigns. I think I was shot down at least fifty times.
 
I have flown both, I think the first time was when I was 8 or 9. Of course, the realism and difficulty sliders were all the way to the left, but, hey! I beat it! lol
 
I am not sure there is a better campaign than the original set. After all, the game was built around them (well, something like that). The fun part comes when you have failed at a mission four or five times and decide to substitute your wildcat with a souped up P51. :rocket:
 
Stock campaigs

I have flown and completed both stock campaigns. I liked the Japanese campaign better on account of the nimbler and more maneuverable Zero compared to the Wildcat. I survived the Japanese missions pretty well until the last landing approach, when I collided with a wing man - forgot to give the spread command.

However, I like Defense of Australia best of all WWII campaigns, have flown it several times, more than any other add-on campagin
 
I have flown both several times. I began on USN EASY with weapons set on strongest and no realistic sun glare nor G-forces. I found the IJN side to be too easy with those settings and the USN side to be too hard. Once I finally completed the IJN easiest side and concentrated on the USN side until I completed it on easiest, I progressed to the next levels on difficulty until I was able to complete both sides in 1% aircraft on most difficult settings. THAT took me over a year to get completely through after dying and being a prisoner more times than I am able to count. Once I got through both sides on hardest settings, I began downloading and flying ETO and MTO campaigns by the masters on here, Netwings, and Simviation.

I guess that is how I ended up with multiple installs and began mission building.

Oh, and I tried playing online against other human flyers, but there were already cheats in the game and I last about a minute and a half on those online CFS, CFS2 sites. Seems there was a way that others could shoot me down from 2000-2500 yards! I could see them on the targeting screen, but their bullets seemed to follow me around corners, up, down, etc. I gave up on online and just played against my computer.

actually I completed both.Liked the usn side better because by learning to stay alive in a wildcat vs a Zero I slowly became a better fighter pilot.I still like to fly the Wildcat in Quick combat just to stay up on my game.Have a good one, Blondi:cost1:

I've only flown the USN campaign and enjoy it. I use the "AI Promoter" and try to get my wingmen more into the action and try to help them survive.

Some of the missions are really good.
 
MY memory is unsure on this. I know that I have flown the U.S. campaign as well as the "Aviar" version but not totally sure that I have completed the IJN one. If so, it's been a while.

I flew both stock CFS 2 campaigns when I got the sim a number of years ago. Might be a good idea to fly them again though :cool:
