Hawaii...can't go there

OBIO

Everytime I try to start a flight in Hawaii, regardless of which airport I select in that state, FS2004 crashes at the 10% mark. The only thing that I can think that would be causing these crashes is that I deleted some of the AI that goes with the Golden Hawaii package....am I right in this theory? Would a reinstall of Golden Hawaii fix this most likely?

OBIO

Do you have VOZ installed?

I think i read some time ago there is a conflict between Golden Hawaii and VOZ...

Or is that GW3.

Deactivate the scenery which is going to be hard because I think some of the bfl files are stored in the scenery/world folder.

If possible uninstall Golden Hawaii and see if you can start a flight in Hawaii.

Hi Obio, removing AI files should make no difference. Sound more like conflicting afcads. Easy to find out though, uninstall the Golden Hawaii files or uncheck oceania in Scenery Library, restart the sim.

I diabled Oceania and still the sim crashes at 10% when selection Hawaii....which only consisted of the Pan Am port via GH one Oceania was disabled. Will have to root around and find all the GH files and dump them and see what happens. I may have to do a reinstall of FS2004...after backing up all my planes, gauges, effects and such first.

There's something strange in the neighborhood, that's fo shizzle my nizzle. I did a clean install of FS2004 in a remote folder, deleted the entire OCEN (Oceania) folder from the install I have been flying, copied the fresh Oceania scenery over....and still Hawaii crashed!

So, I am going to do is this: Take the fresh install, run the 9.1 update, install those few tweaks that I run (HDE Clouds, Shockwave 3d Lights, Real Environment Pro, replacement environment map, replacement water...once I find a really good set) basically get it up to par visually with the install I have been running. Then burn that to DVD as a master working copy (a C-130 just flew over my house, low and slow, love that plane!) which I can use to make all the installs I want without having to run the install discs, without having to reinstall all my tweaks.

Then, I will set up Golden Wings and Silver Wings installs. Or maybe I should do that before adding in the replacement clouds and such.

In any case, my current install has been pretty well bashed around, so it's time to rebuild it with more forethought and planning.

Ok if it is not Oceania then it must be a problem in Golden Hawaii. Not sure how you have this installed, I have installed GH in different ways, with the switcher, as an addon scenery, and directly into GW3.
Good idea to have a original install of FS9 with the update handy. Make all copies from that. I start with a fresh install of FS9 with the update, then add GW3 with updates, then addons, modify the cfg, water, clouds and such.
So far havent found any water, ground, clouds or sky environments that I like better than the default GW3. Except for Moskvin Stanislav's photoreal grass texture, which works perfect on my system.

Have you tried the HDE Clouds linked up in the stickies area. They are amazing and do not harm frame rates....or at least no one has reported any frame rate reduction as a result of using them...I know my frame rates are right where they have always been. The clouds and new sky colors are a major improvement over stock, and honestly, much better than the stock GW3 items.

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, except that mine crashed at 15% -- but only when trying to load a flight in Hawaii. The problem was a set of four mesh files for Hawaii. Unfortunately I deleted them and can't give you the names. However, if you still have this problem, try deactivating all your mesh (or your mesh for Hawaii, if you've got things organized that way).

If you don't have any add-on mesh installed for Hawaii, then sorry, it must be something else.

Hope it works out,
Bill

P.S. As a follow up to my previous post, by "mesh" I mean terrain mesh, and I should add that, when FS9 crashed, it gave me an error message identifying "terrain.dll" as the source of the problem.

I should also add that, while I can't give you the name of the mesh files involved in my problem, I now remember after looking through a couple of file libraries that they were by Raimundo Taburet and, like I said, they were a set of four, numbered that 1-4, and they were pretty old files, possibly even from the FS 2002 days. Since eliminating those four files, I've been able to fly Connies and Strats into PHNL again.

Hope you get it straightened out,
Bill

I use Rhumbafloppys' LOD 5 and LOD 7 World Mesh....a huge improvement over the stock mesh and covers the entire world.

Since I really need to reorganize my HD space and better organize my plane collection, I am going to set up new installs" Golden Wings GA, Golden Wings Military, Silver Wings GA, Silver Wings Military, and a "normal" install for modern stuff.

OBIO

The head scratching continues. Brand New sets ups of Golden Wings, one GA and one Military. Both have the HDE Clouds and Rhumbafloppy's world mesh. Hawaii will not work. I also have two installs of Silver Wings....both with HDE Clouds and Rhumbafloppy's mesh....and I can go to Hawaii in those. I do not have Golden Hawaii installed....just the planes, which I copied from previous installs.

Does anyone else have problems getting to Hawaii?

I have all of Bill Lyon's aircraft that I could find installed...do any of them come with Hawaii scenery other than Golden Hawaii? Could this possibly be the reason Hawaii is on strike?

OBIO

Hi Obio, very strange that you still have problems in Hawaii with a fresh install. Might suggest this: start a flight from Midway Island, fly to Hawaii and see if the sim crashes.

Obio, have you asked over at the Old Hanger? They're the experts on Bill Lyons' stuff.

Yep, have posted over there and hoping to get an answer to this problem. I can't fly out of Wheeler Field...and how am I supposed to enjoy my P-36 and P-40 without Wheeler Field. Can't even cruise over Pearl.

OBIO

I didn't even KNOW they had a Golden Wings Military Edition for FS2004! I mostly fly the CFS-2 P-40s in FS-9 anyway...

DD

They don't have a Golden Wings Military Edition....just Golden Wings. I have so many planes in my FS2004 collection, that I find it necessary to break them down into 5 categories:

General Aviation prior to 1950: Golden Wings GA

Military Aviation prior to 1950: Golden Wings Military

General Aviation between 1950 and 1970: Silver Wings GA

Military Aviation between 1950 and 1970: Silver Wings Military

All planes after 1970: Standard install of FS2004

OBIO

Hey Obio,

I've been trying to do something like that but my JF aircraft keep breaking. They must think I am stealing the aircraft when I move the folder or something. It's a royal pain to me because I customize these aircraft and loose all my work when I need to re-install the package. I even e-mailed customer service at Just Flight and they basically told me I could save the aircraft in different folders. So my question is do you have any JF aircraft and how do you keep them from breaking when you move them to a "holding" folder (not the aircraft folder)?

Obio,
I've seen your post over at TOH and there are too many variables to give an answer to your issue. Many of us did install GH as a permanent feature in GW3 and there are instructions how to do it in the GW3 forum. I suspect that attempting to use the GH AI aircraft without GH installed is your problem but no one I know has a set up anything like yours to offer suggestions.

Roger

I'll try installing GH directly into my GW installs and see if that fixes it...will let you know how it goes.

OBIO

During the process of making GH a permanent part of my Golden Wings GA install, I found that there were four or five BGLs missing! That would explain why Hawaii crashes! Going to test it now that I have GH permanently installed.
