Hawera Airport coming

Condor61

condor61
I have a new Airfield coming for release after update 3 has arrived. I want to make sure it doesn't affect it.
This Airfield is at Hawera in New Zealand which is on the west coast halfway down the North island. It has
a great view of New Zealand's most perfect mountain.
The airfield was established in 1939 and the no1 hangar I believe dates back to the 1940s. There are seven hangars, a RC models club building
and a Clubhouse. There are three runways one of which has Runway lights so night flying is possible.
The airfield has a flight training club which is very active.
I have opened No1 hangar so you can use that. No 7 hanger is open, but is blocked by a Tiger moth. The real airfield houses three and a half Tiger moths.
If you don't have Ant's Tiger moth you will be able to use it. To see the Tiger moth on the airfield you will need Ant's Tiger moth. It is a good price now.
Here is a few images of the airfield. I haven't shown all the detail, so you will have something to find.
At the moment I'm doing the Hawera Racecourse buildings. They will be basic, but better than what is there now.

Very nice! Many years ago I got a flight in a Tiger Moth (Tiger Club meet) from Hawera. Also did the odd flight with my Dad from Hawera in a Cessna 150. Looking forward to it!

Naki I sent you a message.
Also, is there anyone from Hawera that has photos of the Racecourse buildings. I have got images from the street side, but can't find any of the track side.
I visited the Airfield before starting this project so the layout is very current. It even has a new hangar that isn't on the Google maps.
I was lucky to be shown inside the old number one hangar and a Tiger moth being built. The people that own and run the Airfield were very helpful.
I have detailed the clubhouse and No1 hangar as much as I can while keeping an eye on the framerates.

Got a chance to get an early flight in and out of Hawera as I was helping Condor61 test something. It's a wonderful little airports -- you guys are going to enjoy this. It's in an absolutely beautiful part of NZ as well (yeah, yeah, that describes most of the country! but cool enormous mountain here!).

Once he releases it, be sure to come in from the outskirts on the road entering the airport and also explore the clubhouse. The clubhouse and open hangars have some awesome details.

If you don't have Greg's Mercer/Kelly package, also in NZ, be sure to grab it in the meantime. His airports are as much fun to explore on foot as to fly into: https://flightsim.to/file/92680/mercer-airfield-nzme

This project is ready for release to the public. I'm just waiting for final approval from the Airfield's committee.
I've used the time to remove the power pylons and replace the ones along the road with realistic power poles.
I also modelled the two houses at the end of the main runway to improve the sense of reality when landing.
MSFS's houses were terrible. The trees by the clubhouse have been changed and look more realistic.
The Racecourse buildings are done and the towns iconic Water tower is included. Its 154m high. Built in 1914.
While under construction it was hit by an earthquake which resulted in a lean that had to be corrected.

Hopefully I will be able to release it within the week.

I uploaded Hawera to flightsim.to today. Hopefully it will be posted tomorrow.

My next project is Minaret Bay airfield with an additional pier facility as well.
The boatshed and pier are not there in real life. I just though it would add something
to the project.

I've had a prerelease Hawera and it's a cracking little airfield and much how I remember it. Includes some nice additions, including some nice houses on the approach path and the Hawera water tower (which I have been up in real life). Greg has done a good job of it.

It's live! As Naki1 says, be sure to explore the area. There are lots of cool details like the water tower (way more than your typical water tower), racetrack, etc.

And if you don't already have Greg's other airports, grab them! They're fantastic places to explore, both the airports and the locations they're in:

I decided to get some else's work today and do the first flight from Hawera. It felt appropriate.
