He177 KG100 & KG 40 Uploaded Now!!!!!

Pfft, I outbrained you at a quarter past two in the morning. Touché. :p: I certainly wasn't capable of thinking as far as Googling at that point...

But to contribute a bit more, here goes with a fully overhauled effects list. If someone can tell me where the heck the tail light is located on this machine I'll do it too.

Outbrained me, I hope you're not implying personal knowledge from all your actual flying experience vs something I read on the internet. Trust me, you were just a little quicker to an internet site than I was, good show outbraining me.

zounds!!!....you guys are amazing....can't wait to try the bird but seems like there'll be a couple corrections to come....THANKS ALL!!!!

Err, I certainly wasn't being serious about that, hence the use of the :p: smiley. Those two models just were the only ones I remembered at the moment.

But to Ted, I've found another problem. The bombsite is off center and quite alarmingly at that, the bombs are hitting dozens of metres to the right from the aiming point. I tried to correct it by borrowing a bomb sight from other aircraft but the only result from those experiments was gunner stations going nuts. Speaking of gunner stations they're named pretty confusingly in the 6N+SK.

all will be modified I'm sure.....but holy crap.....what an Axis flying fortress....haven't been able to come close without being hosed out of the sky. Yikes!!!

Well CFS3 aims the bombs too easily so I added a bit of challenge. Names, I'll look one of these days. Hey if you want to chnage them go ahead, I never use labels or messages or notifcations so I never see my craziness. This bird will be one of the last for some time. I really need to do that TOW theater, so no time for planes, well unless they .....

Oh, some screen shots would be nice.

Ooh, I've ony just noticed the gun station thing. Now then, Idon't mind uploaded a corrected aircraft, but I would like all these issues addressed so it can be all dealt with in one corrective upload. No sweat though this often happens with such complex models.

A truly beautiful Bomber
Thanks to all..
:salute: :salute: :salute:

They (He 177) had such a bad operational record, never had the chance to work all the bugs out before the war ended..
A complex bomber, just like the Masters have built for us all to enjoy..

Grateful this bomber wasn't a complete success, could have made life hard for the allies..

...So what type of missions did these monsters fly? Did they have any notable successes? :mixedsmi:

Yeah, I never added contact points for the props, I'll do that for the A5's and add the bent prop too. I have taken off several times since I read lewis's post and the plane yaws to the left I straighten it out and she tends to track fairly well with a slight pull to the left. IF you accelerate the engines without letting them warm up you will get a pull to the left and then to right as the starboard engines get to speed. Also, if you ram the throttles forward you will also get the zig zag a bit. It takes about 4-5 minutes for the engines to all warm up to operational temps. Lewis, if you warm up the engines, slowly advance the throttles, she'll behave well.

We're getting A-5s too?! Awesome! I love it when an aircraft like this gets represented in multiple variants. A big thank you to all involved on this project! BTW, what are the differences between the A-3 and A-5 versions?

Internally it should have a strengthened wing and a longer fuselage as standard (apparently it wasn't standard on the A-3 series) and externally it should have shorter landing gear legs as well as do away with the faired lower part of the cockpit glazing. But the thing I'm looking forward to the most is the third Hs 293a under the fuselage...

The long one, all the A-3 models had it but it was "standardized" from the A-5 onwards. It seems our A-3s are specifically of the subtype A-3/R3 as they're powered by DB610s and have the Hs 293 capabilities. On the other hand they're armed like A-3/R2s but I'm not sure if the /R3 actually had the same armament being a later version.

A5 we will have

The third HS 293, as far as my research shows was never used in combat. I have no record of any 177 ever using this. There are illustrations in German manuals for four hs293s but this never happened. Just as there are numerous illustrations with the Fritz 1400, again this is false. The only German test data that I can find is for the 177 with two hs293s. (The only plane to operationally use the Fritz 1400 is the Do 217). Now if you can find me operational reports to the contrary I'll be glad to add the pylon and third hs293.:salute: As far as the faired lower section of the pit, A5s were also equipped that way depending upon role.

A significant difference is the elimination of the ailerons as flaps. The A5 just used the main ones.

Gray, please do not expect the A5s to have shorter oleos, it was fun enough making these once so no go on that. :mixedsmi:

The landing gear is hardly an issue, the aircraft is sitting so low and level already that I honestly can't understand how the gear could be any shorter while still allowing enough wing incidence for taking off. It may well be a case of a couple of cm as I can't spot any differences in pictures. The fully glazed nose was indeed more of an option.

About the third Hs 293, Google found me this:

While it still doesn't prove they were used on operational flights it at least shows that technically it could be done.

Third 293

I have several pictures of 177s with the third mount, but not one with an actual bomb loaded. We'll see maybe I'll make one like that.....

Hs293

Well, the maximum bomb load for the He177 was about 2500kg, one 293 was around 1300kg or so. Two was very doable, but three would require a substantial sacrifice in fuel, arms, or both. While the A5s that were equipped with the third mount did have the gondola guns removed, along with the cockpit gun, a fair amount of guidance equipment was added. So for short trips sure, but long sea patrols not sure. Also, some 177 had the FuG200 installed adding several hundred kg.

...some questions: Do we have a glide-torpedo? -wuz that 'ship bomb rocket propelled? ...And, did the He 177 share a weak under-carriage with the Condor? (tho' they are totally different actually are they not?) :mixedsmi:

The torp in the screenie is not the Ariel torpedo I thought it was. There doesn't seem to be a Blohm & Voss L.10 "Friedensengel" in CFS3, but I stand to be corrected. The FritzX is a Radio controlled glide bomb, which was designed to be armour piercing against capital ships and saw action by KG100 in the Med (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_X). In CFS3 it is treated as a rocket, which makes sense, it did have a flare in the tail to enable the operator to see it. CFS3/ETO also has the Blohm & Voss 246 "Hagelkorn" glide bomb
