Heatblur F-14B(U) on pre-order

Oh man, busy month for DCS. Just saw this on YouTube and I am very tempted, but it's a beautiful upgrade with a chonky pricetag, $48.99 just for the F-14B(U) update for existing F-14 owners and $98.99 for the Ultimate Edition which comes with the A-6 AI, new carrier (Forrestal), TARPS pod and more.

The video is typical high quality Heatblur stuff.

Kind of in the realm of too many in my hangar now and not enough time to fly them all, really well at least. Though that retirement life in the next few years will likely give me all the time I need. The improvements will also be ported over to the existing F-14 owners, but it's the additional stuff that's very enticing.

Cheers!

Heatblur brought me back to DCS with the Tomcat release. The B(Upgrade) really is a different jet compared to the initial A/Bs. They also win on video production.
No doubt they make breathtaking modules and videos. I really want this but am considering is the F-14D coming next?

I believe the answer is NO. From what I understand the -D systems are still too classified/Opsec/ITAR protected to be able to simulate the -D in the way we would want to in DCS. AFAIK, Heatblur has publicly said numerous times that they will not be doing the -D. The BU is likely the closest we'll get I think.

I can believe in the classified stuff being a show stopper overall, although the fleet has been retired for just at 20 years now. I am also a bit shocked to see so many of the newer aircraft that are modelled or in the works, that seem to have so much fidelity in the electronics area, for DCS and MSFS series.

I will likely buy the Ultimate because I like the idea of a new carrier, TARPS recon runs and the A-6 AI.

It's not clear to me which version should a current owner of the F-14A/B get. Also is preorder available from ED store as well?

I mis-spoke in my original post. I would edit the first post but it seems that is not an option like before, so my apologies for initial confusion.

Current F-14A/B owners need only purchase the F-14B(U). The ultimate comes with the base F-14A/B and the F-14B(U). The original F-14A/B owners that do not buy the upgrade will get a free upgrade of some of the U kit, when released such as below:.

"Many improvements developed for the B Upgrade will also come to the rest of the Tomcat family, including the in-game browser, in-game manual with click-to-explain feature, grease pencil, and more. The expansion also includes a new set of instant action missions and two campaigns: Operation Reforger Part III over Cold War Germany, available on day one of release, and a tailor-made F-14B(U) campaign by Baltic Dragon, to be added after initial release." (from the product page on both ED and Heatblur sites)

This offering is also sold on the ED store for the same price. There is also a limited edition offering on the Heatblur store for an additional $10.00 that provides a nice black t-shirt with the Heatblur F-14 logo.

So, realizing I only need the B(U) upgrade for $48.99, makes this deal a whole lot more palatable to my wallet....lol. And, without saying, reading is fundamental, on my behalf. Lord, I hate getting older.

Just to say that I'm having a blast with the B(U). The combination of the upgraded electronics and steam gauges in the cockpit is unique. Shooting a 6-shooter of Phoenixes at 6 targets with the radar in TWS mode is amazing plus the big bird is also a good close in docgfighter with the AI Jester also as a second pair of eyes reporting on target position and speed. Still have not tried the upgraded air to ground capabilities. The plane can even fly in self-escort attack mode with 2 Phoenix + 2 JDAMs loaded in the underbelly between the engines plus the Sparrows and Sidewinders on the wings.

This thing is a beast! Having Jester in the back to do all the work with target designation, coordinates for JDAMs, painting targets with the LANTIRN is a great help. Plus as I said you can have two Phoenix in the front bays and blast any interceptors that come in your way from 70+ miles plus a couple of Sidewinders and one or two Sparrows (one if you have the LANTIRN) to potentially fight your way back out of the target area. As I said, a real beast!
