Heinkel He-51 WIP

Craig, Huub, that is one fantastic looking aircraft! Can't wait for the release! :applause:

Interesting how the nose looks almost identical to the He-70 (one of my favourite airliners) while the rest is totally different.

That isn't exactly coincidently as they both had the same BMW engine and they both came from the same factory. Heinkel made really beautiful and advanced aircraft in those days. The He-70 had retractable undercarriage, which was sensational for a civil aircraft in those days and it already had elliptical wings, long before anybody had heard from a Spitfire. The Doppelblitz (civil He111) had the same engine and covers as well.

Now if only Hauke Keitel's models would work in FSX......

I would already be happy if his He-70 would work in Fs9..... It was one of my favourite Fs2002 aircraft!

Last year I found a plastic model, but the moulding was so bad it ended up in the garbage bin after several hours trying to piece it together.. Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait until someone decides to do an FsX model...

Actually the "work in progress" was added, because all skins showed still need some additional work. For instance the fin under the engine from the JG135 machine should be blue, the cross on the tail from the grey Condor machine is too large, etc.

I had planned to do a mid-war trainer as well, but these had the wheel covers removed and a normal tail wheel. Perhaps not a real problem for most, but the fact the model is incorrect for these liveries would most probably annoy me too much in the end.

But when there is a livery you are specifically interested in please let me know.

I have a couple colour plates i have to dig up and scan for you - from what you have done so far it looks you may have a better library selection on the type .

This one has been wipped for a long time, looking great and glad to see it coming to fruition!

In another thread somebody posted a question about progress on this model.

I'm afraid I'm the delaying factor. Craig did already managed to finish another model, but I'm still splashing virtual paint.

These will be the included liveries. As you might see there will be two models (one not yet completely finished) and 8 different textures. So Craig still has some work on the model, Tom some work on the flight dynamics and I have some minor updates on the textures to do.

Was going through some old files and just thought I'd resurrect this tread to show you a piece of history (mine) and maybe get Craig going on a float version to use with the new "Accufeel_Sea" option... (hint, hint... :jump:).

When I first tried my hand at making a plane (in 2000) using FSDS v.1 (was it so long ago ?), I received help from two gentlemen who kindly shared part of their work to help me get going...
Karbon (?) had made a HE-51 and Stewart Green had a beautiful Arado Ar-196, both for CFS2. I got to use the body and wings and joined them with Stuart's floats to start my project and worked my way at improving and fitting the two parts together. I never did publish this one of a kind contraption but it did fly and land on water, thanks to Mr.Magoo's help with the air file...

That would be nice if a float version was made eventually, which would be historically correct...

Full, the Heinkel 51 is great, it's the plane I've flown most these last few weeks. And it keeps growing on me! :mixedsmi:

The floatplane variant is a nice idea. Wikipedia tells me 46 were built, but I don't think there will be many repaint opportunities...
