Heli Traffic X

Never seen it before..But I always wanted some chopper AI........

This will be cool because they actually fly and take off like helicopters rather than like an airplane as before! :applause::applause::applause:
 
Considering how the other tools this company have released have not lived up to the hype, I am a bit wary, but man, if this works as advertised, I will be buying it for sure.

now all we need are some good AI heli models!!

the last MAIW package had AI apaches that took off close to real helis so maybe this is an extension of that .
 
Hi Folks

Don't think it's an MAIW offshoot,
as that was built into the model,
and relied on Holger's methodology for traffic.

This uses any chopper,
and looks like it's a SimConnect application,
as you control their spawn range.

Certainly an interesting development.

Broke down and bought it. Playing around with it now. First impressions seem to be good. As I think Michael said, you need some good AI helis, or this eats frames!!

Okay, played with it for awhile.

This has some potential. It is very easy to get A TON of helicopters flying around your FS world. It only seems to recognize my flyable helicopters as AI however. I actually had 30+ (no lie, 30+) copies of my Alphasim UH-60's and AH-64D's (a few Jordan Moore 412's for good measure) at the same airport, at the same time (quite naturally, frames were low). It was almost like a awarm of bee's!!


I tried placing some of my AI helicopters (from Ft Rucker package out on Hovercontrol), but it does not see them. Also, helicopters tend to spawn on top of you. In other words, it does not recognize you as being there. I suppose that with some "tweaking" (you can build your own flightplans), this might be a nice addition. The nice thing is that you can turn this "off", and "on", on the fly. So if your in a "faster moving mood" you won't have helicopters in your way.

So I stand by my positive first impression of this product.

Icycle, do the choppers land and take off like choppers ? do they actually hover like it states on their site.

I could have a lot of fun with this one.

As for not seeing your AI only helis, probably looks for aircraft that show up in the flyable list. You might be able to change that by changing the number to make them show up in the flyable list.

Do you know if it makes an AI traffic file that can be shared/uploaded?

I'm with Seaking, if they fly like they should I am sold!
 
Thanks for all opinions! It seems to be a simconnect module (something like AI carriers but for helicopters).
It's on my to-buy list, but i hope there will be an AI formation tool V4... :engel016:
 
Holy Cow...It does look like you're in a swarm there.......

I bet there is some way to tone it back some...But i don't know...I think they have forums...

I've always missed choppers in the sim...

Now that I've turned down the random Helicopters, I've found some interesting things.

1)You can build Helicopter "flightplans" and have the Helicopters fly the plan.

2) You can designate landing spots "on-the-fly" So you can designate an "LZ" and have a helo chopper in, land pause for a few seconds, or a few hours, and return to its origin.

I built a couple of landing spots 10 miles from Ft. Campbell, had 2 Blackhawks (alphasim) come in, land, stay a minute, and return to Ft. Campbell. Kind of fun to play with.

The helos do fly reasonably like a helo. They land vertically, and fly at about 300-400 ft at 50-100kts.

Two issues, I don't know if they create a "bgl" to be swapped. And I can't remember how to get my AI Helo's visible (can't remember how I got them invisible?).

icycle, Ive got mytrafficx, do u think that this would work with that program becouse the afcads go into thier own folder versus the addon scenery folder ?

The questions are begining to get asked and answered now over at their forum, my question on do they hover has already been answered, as for mytrafficx, they say there should be no problems if you have that installed.

Looks like I'm gonna go get this and have a play around. To see choppers take off and land just like choppers will be something in a flight sim.
