Hi All - I have the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS as my sim controllers and was wondering if anyone could recommend a tutorial for helicopter flying with these types of peripherals please?
With helicopters "Less is more". I think the Bell 407 is a fairly decent chopper to learn in. Rudder pedals are quite essential! For the collective action and even the cyclic, smooth operation is paramount. The low resistance Hall effect sticks are good. Start by just lifting off, hover for a short bit, perhaps move from one runway number to another.
Surprisingly my MSFS help adventures transferred well into real choppers. Maybe about 4 hours or so the light bulb will come on.
Get rotor trim buttons set up helps as well.
You don't have to, but I created a whole new joystick profile for helicopters. having more sensitive control settings helps with making small adjustments in the hover. Learning to make small inputs made all the difference for me.
As Snuffy posted above, you may not be aware of the new Rotorhead forum here on SOH.
It is a place for all things rotorcraft related. No matter how long you've flow rotorcraft, or which sim you use.
Rotorhead is THE place to ask, share, learn, and just have fun.

I'll be posting updates here along with in FS.com.
