Helldiver uploaded

Excellent work, guys!! She really looks great!!

...A quick mention about loadouts, the helldiver currently does not have a torpedo loadout, as we dont have one in game that fits the model. this may be fixed at a latter date...

About that last bit; according to sources, the Helldiver could be fitted with the US Mk.13 torpedo. This was not carried inside the bay, as the Mk.13 was too long to fit inside, but on a special rack/adapter on the centerline with the bomb bay doors in the open position. Both the doors and the current torpedo model are to scale - as much as the reference material allows anyway, so the only thing needed is the adapter/pylon model itself. For additional details, see the book "In Detail And Scale, No.52 - SB2C Helldiver", page 51 in the developer's FTP's library.
Perhaps the Mk.24 FIDO model fits without the adapter but that was an acoustic homing torpedo.

Additional information; the bomb bay could be fitted with one centerline rack for a single 1,000 lb or 1,610 lb bomb (AP or GP) or two side-by-side racks for bombs of smaller size, max. size 1,000 lb AP. The 1,000lb GP was too wide for these racks. According to the photographs on page 56 of the same book, these racks appear to be some kind of 'swing', a similar device as found on the SBD and the Stuka. Not surprisingly, these two aircraft are also dive bombers.

[I might as well copy the piccies here:]

Hi Guys,

I have uploaded the updated set, just need admins to ok it.

I have also uploaded a set of MOS files for the set, I completely forgot them!! until after I uploaded the updated set. sorry for the mess around. (just place the mos files into the corrisponding texture folder of each plane.)

file can be found under CFS3 aircraft (search by date created desending)

Hi Nigel,

John has done a couple of Shrike textures including the RAAF version. Steve has a proper shrike model as well just needs a bit of finishing off. With regards to other Skins for RN etc I'm sure there coming.

A quick mention about loadouts, the helldiver currently does not have a torpedo loadout, as we dont have one in game that fits the model. this may be fixed at a latter date.

regards Rob.

Rob,

I deleted the old package when I approved the new one. Judging from your description, I figured this was okay. Just so you know, I am the admin in charge of all uploads, no one else really wants anything to do with it. I'm kind of the red-headed stepchild of the admins, but I like my role. :icon_lol:

A quick search through some other reference books: two sources mention that the torpedo loadout was never used operationally by the US. So I wouldn't spent too much time fiddling with it - unless anyone is interested in a 'what if'.
I also came across another interesting piccie regarding the loadouts of the -3 and -4 models:

Looks like a well done job. Better than Curtiss. As a side note to the problems with the SB2C, war or no war those problems, delays, and cost escalation led Harry Truman to hold Senate investigations into it. After it was all said and done the SB2C never fully replaced the SBD as the SB2C was too big for the escort carriers.

Installed this beauty into PTO Solomons easily. Sometimes I host
PTO Rising Sun, so I'm waiting for the guys to install it there, too.

Thx to Sdsbolt, Bravo/4, Nachtpiloten and Capt. Winters et al for this!

That Val shot me up good, though...shouldn't have toyed with him :) .

To all involved in this project, if you don't know what to do during the loooooong winter evenings.... there is an 'exotic' idea!

The French Aeronavale used the Helldiver (SB2C-5 and -4) during the Indochine war, this is within the Rising Sun scope.

Interesting video. I noticed that they had the Dive Brake partially extended during take-off. It must act like flaps in that position.

Sdsbolt, Bravo/4, Nachtpiloten and Capt. Winters thanks for the Helldiver! As always all your meticulous work produced a very detailed model for the CFS3 community!

Hi guys

jooste thanks for the info re torpedo, I couldn't find any pics of the torpedo load so this info is good, I did tell Steve I wasn't to worried about the torpedo load out as I couldn't find any reference to it being used operationally, as you pointed out as well.

to the best of my knowledge the A25a shrike was only used in second line activities does anybody have any links or info on either USMC or USAAF using the shrike in combat?

we have a shrike ready to go once I can find some decent history for textures. Currently have a texture for 13 FS USAAF and a RAAF one.

Nigel, your question re RAAF use, we only received 10 planes and as far as I can work out only one of them flew in Australia in trials we never used them operationally

Regards Rob

Another high quality freeware offering from talented artists! Sdsbolt, Bravo/4, Nachtpiloten, Capt. Winters, Joost, frosty, Lawdog...names that we almost always see on the best addons! And lets not forget the model is by Wolgang Faber! All of you deserve our gratitude! Thank you, thank you!

Task Group 12.4, June 20th 1945.

While enroute from Pearl Harbor to Leyte in the Philippine Islands, Task Group 12.4 attacked Wake Island as an operational training against a target with weak defenses before starting operations in frontline.

Single mission to be uploaded today with a Corsair one. This will help to wait until Talon can release his package for the Helldiver! :icon_lol:

The Truk missions (15 missions only 2 with the Helldiver ) are finished and will be going out for testing this week.

I'm still working on the Rabaul missions. There will be more Helldiver missions in this.
