Dear All

I would like to use my DeHavilland Hornet(Alphasim) in FSX.Most things work but glass texture and props dont.I am Connie-teams FDE,Effects specialist but a hopeless repainter. My usual idea copy the Alphas from Piglets Moranne-->failed this time.

Would anyone look into the attached BMP -ZIP and chnage the alpha channel that it may be correct transparent(glass& prop) in FSX SP2 ??

Thanks a lot

Prop disc is on HORBANDP.BMP lower left corner
Glass is HORBP2A & B the lower triangle and all the backgrounds

Again thanks a lot

Roland

If not, tell me whats wrong and i will try, try, try again :p

Thanks but unfortonately NO!!

I now checked wether this is in the model, but if I rename the texture it then gets transparent

On the prop maybe the stripe on the prop texture right side Yellow up black stripe to bottom is guilty

On the cabin glass still grey

Thanks for annother try-->then lets forget it

Roland

Roland,

I do not have the payware ALPHA Hornet, so there is no way I could test these textures.

A note. I have enlarged the textures from 512 X 512 to 1024 X 1024, as this is a better size for FSX. I made a new prop blur and glass textures with alphas for each. All are saved in 32-bit 888-8 bitmap, but possibly converting them to a DDS format would even be better. As a rule, the Alpha in propblurs for portovers has to be constrained a bit.

Try these three in the attached zip, hope they help, but portovers usually do have to have the .mdl files redone if they are very old FS2004 models.

Thanks CAZ

Just trying

I still have to learn model editing-->visual one is OK even by todays standards

Main time goes into Connie flight testing to iron out some tiny glitches for the update release(this tiny things a quite stubborn)

Roland,

Understand, this is taking a shot in the dark with the second Hornet texture you sent that has the canopy frame. If this does not fix the exterior glass, it must be on another texture. Look and see if there is a texture named glass.bmp.

Also, if the prop blur seems static (that is, in one place) when the throttle settings are in any set position, do this; open the aircraft.cfg and and add this line under the ui_variation-?? for each aircraft:

prop_anim_ratio=1.05 (This figure can be variable, so experiment with it to suit your likes)

Caz

You were right

It must be in the HORBANDP.BMP (no glass.bmp there) as when I take it out it looks like this

Just no idea where as it is also for the coolers and other stuff

Roland

(the red frame was me annother try-error)

Strange that it would be on the HORBANDP.BMP, as that is where the prop blur is and I see nothing vaguely looking like a glass area?

What did you do to the Alpha on that texture Roland.

I did a fix for this model prop and glass about a year ago but only did the 2 naval models also fixed them to cat and trap.

The zip contains 2 more zips one for texture 2 and one for texture 3 you might want to try them Horband has the prop and glass in it and you can see the locations if you open them with DXTbmp in the alpha channel window, the HORBP2.bmp is the canopy frame, you could try dropping the bmp's into the non naval models the props and glass should be ok but the canopy might need repaint to match.

Please let me know how you get on

Thinking about it after such a long time HORBP2.bmp is only the canopy frame and a few other bits but no glass so only Horband.BMP needs changing, the glass texture it seems is the whitish square in the top left corner to which I added a alpha channel, had simmilar problems with the AS Firebrand and MB5 and while the glass and props were fixed some other parts became transparent/semi transparent, to many different bits using the same texture.

Dear Rich

Thanks-->works very well-->just Flying the pocket Mosquito

Roland

Rich,

Many thanks, who would have believed the glass was that tiny square in the upper left?:isadizzy:

But I am still getting mystery props in the prop blur. Must sort it out somehow. When I do, I'll convert one set of textures to DDS and see what kind of hit that does to the fps.

Sorry, just noticed the HORBAND.BMP I uploaded for texture.3 was out of my WIP folder and does not have the correct texture for the wing drop tanks, this should put it right there are 2 bmp's , HORBAND.BMP will give a slight blue tint to the canopy, if you would prefer the clear canopy version there is a clear_ HORBANDP.bmp with instructions for useage included in the zip.

Cazzie, re your prop problem it is your alpha that is causing it I think, bit puzzled why you would want to change from 512 to 1024 size since it is basicaly a colour pallet with no detail as such except for the prop which does need a better alpha channel unfortunately out of my depth.

peter12213, sorry after the Hellcat saga I give up on posting cat and arrester settings
