Help! Multiplayer paint scheme problem!

My question is directed to any Fsx multiplayer gurus out there regarding paint schemes seen by other players.

When I'm in a multiplayer session, I can see the correct paint scheme the other players are sporting but they seem to see me as something different than what I selected.

This has occured on two occasions I am aware of: when I flew the default F-18 with a custom skin selected, (the other player had the exact same skin installed on their computer), and while flying the VRS Superbug with one of the default schemes selected, and yes in the case of the Superbug the other player who mentioned the anomoly to me had the Superbug with the same default skin as well.

Any constructive thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Quite possibly this issue is due to a miss match in the title of the paint scheme between the two players. Try comparing your aircraft.config entries too make sure they are the same.

Yep, what Mike say, lol
If you or the other guy made any changes to that particular livery in the config file, it will cause the problem you're talking about. It's ok to make changes, but everyone else has to have the same information.:salute:

Many thanks for the prompt input.

I will have a gander at my default hornet files. The only issue for me regarding this suggestion is that the same thing occured when I used the VRS Superbug, default scheme selected. Now, I know that neither him nor I had done any modifications to this one. Inspite of the fact I could still see his livery correctly, I was displaying a different scheme that what I had actually selected on his.

Incidentally both he and I had selected schemes which were included with the original release of the Superbug.

You could be seeing the affect of LOD or another strange Multiplayer model issue.

The Multiplayer model issue very simply is where the model displayed is different from the one you are in.

I will use Tom Kohler's P-47M for FS9 as an example.

Tom's P-47M has a pilot in the aircraft but for some unknown reason he was never able to get that pilot to show up in Multiplayer. Looking at the plane in the external view you would see your pilot but anyone else who had that plane had no pilot.

LOD is a different story and likely not the issue you are seeing. I doubt the VRS Superbug was made with LOD but if it was what you might be seeing is one of the other LODs in Multiplayer.

Here is the P-47M at LOD 995

At the closests eye point this is what you would see in the Sim.

zoom out and you would see LOD 224

View attachment 53304

View the plane from even further away and you would see LOD 10

If the LODs are really close simply being a couple of plane distances apart can make the models look different and that is because the visual model you are looking at is different.

My guess is that the difference you are seeing is the way the model handles Multiplayer and not a LOD feature.

There is probably nothing you can do to affect it in anyway.

Many thanks again for all the suggestions. I'm going to dive on a multiplayer session later and check a few things out. Will respond afterwards.

Edit:\\

Turns out the other players folder name was different from mine for the same paint scheme. Still wasn't able to sort out the similar problem with the VRS bird but that question is best posed on their site.

Many thanks to all who posted.
