Help with Gary Burns BOB airfields

JapLance

Charter Member 2012
I'm setting up a CFS2 installation exclusively devoted to Battle of France/Battle of Britain. I've added Joachim bases for UK and France with no problem (they look great), but I've tried Gary Burns BOB pack (this one, file not available for the moment) and I can only get empty bases, with no buildings or hangars:

The pic that came with the download shows a Hawkinge view with hangars, so I guess I did something wrong, but I just don't know what. I redirected the exe install file to a temporary folder (I like to see what's being installed) and then proceded to move the contents to the CFS2 installation and then activate through the Settings menu. The bases are there, I can start a Free Flight session from any of them, but they're completely empty.

The readme reads v1.01, but the installer exe seems to be 1.0 only :isadizzy:. It also talks about some London scenery that I couldn't find, but that's not very important to me.

I've found alternative downloads for some of the airfields in this pack (not all of them though), but I'd like to keep these so they look more or less the same.

Can anybody give me a helping hand through this? :engel016:

Japlance,

Did you install them straight to the install, or did you install them manually to the desktop?

You might want to try reinstalling it again, because the program should update the GSL file. If you look at your GSL file, it should make backups of it.

That might be it then.

I don't like to install anything straight into the CFS2 folders, I like to be in control of what goes there, but if you say that the installer adds the GSL, then there's no other solution, I guess.

I'll try it again and let you know.

Thanks mate :ernae:

There's some difficulty with Hawkinge, I've had this problem too. It's the only one of the set that appears that way. sometimes a re-install works, sometimes it doesn't.

I'd like to know if you hit upon a solution JapLance.

I do not install direct in to cfs2 either.
Make a new folder place a cfs2 gls ,cfs2 and a empty scenebd run installer into new folder.
I think you know the rest
I found if you install directly into cfs2 when you want to use mission builder to install gls scenery mission builder can not open the gls file for reading.
good luck . I am thinking about doing a cfs2 mag with info like this in what do you think

Rami's tip worked perfect, but as you said, Hawkinge is giving me problems. For starters, the buildings in Hawkinge now show up, but the big .bmp in which they should be doesn't. The hangars lie directly over the landclass. I tried to change the order in the scenery list, but it didn't work. Also, it seems to be in a wrong place, North of Dover instead of West as I think it should be

I don't know how re-place it and make it work, so I deleted the Hawkinge bgl's and added Ian Elliott's Hawkinge-Lympne combo instead.

Last night I found a mission in a campaign that started where the Gary Burns Hawkinge should be, with a flight of 4 Spitfires. When I looked back I saw all the AI Spitfires spinning and jumping around just like dancing :icon_lol:. Guess it was the result of not having a proper airfield under their wheels.

It was really a funny moment before being blasted away by German Wirbelwinds around Calais Airfield (Wirbelwinds in Summer 1940!?).
