Help with the DUCK?

Here's my setup attached. Just remember that this kite is a true amphib - land and water capable. Because it has working gear, you can't water start. If you try in free flight you'll get bounced to 5000 ft ASL with auto engine start and gear retracted. Have fun...

Wasn't happy with the previous air file. Made a few mods.

Thank you, much appreciated.Free time this evening so going to give it a try soon as installed.

Edit:This plane has been the biggest PITA of any plane in CFS 2 lol.Now, it just does not show up when I try to fly it.I went to free flight, not on the list to use.Installed like install every other plane, but it will not show up. Thanks for the work though.

You have to check the header data in the top section of the cfg file:

[fltsim.0]
title=Grumman J2F-2A Duck, VMS-3, section 3, 1940
sim=DUCK
model=1
panel=
sound=
texture=1
prop_anim_ratio=1.76
kb_checklists=

Does this data agree with your setup? Do you have a texture.1 folder or a model.1 folder? If you don't have a texture.1 folder or a model.1 folder then delete the '1' from the model= line and the texture= line in the header.

Does your dp and *.air file have the name "DUCK" as required by the sim=DUCK line? If not, then you have to synch this data with your current subfolder and file name setup within the Duck's aircraft folder or the model won't show.

I didn't involve myself in modifying these details because i thought you would as required by your own folder and file name setup.

Thanks, it works now. Learn something new each day lol.

Know if there are any early war skins, say Fall of 42 for use in Guadalcanal campaigns? Also, seems to not want to pick up speed after land in water and stop, cant take off again.Way around it or just how it is?

Open the cfg again and increase the power and/or the thrust scale:

[piston_engine]
power_scalar = 1.0 >>>> go to 1.1 or 1.2

[propeller]
thrust_scalar = 1.1

I've never found any warpaint for this model, so it gets little attention from me in terms of missions and such. Up until now, its just been a sea-hopping rec plane for me.

Thanks, will give it a try this evening

Hiya Mark,

MDLC didn't help much. It's the way Mr Clawson was using the materials, I've been playing around with settings using MDLMAT & seem to have got a fix that works. Lots of trial & error...

Hopefully the same properties will do his SOC3 too.

I tried making the crew transparent & replacing them with payload pilots, but because the glass transparencies were created solely using alpha channels, you get some annoying - there he is, now he's gone - kind of effects as you pivot around the external view, so I ditched that & stayed with the originals.

Working up some dp payloads & then I'll go back to the paint schemes later :mixed-smiley-027:once I need a break from Carrier wing research & repaints ...:running:

Your level of shine is fine Uncle, as well as the crew as is...don't knock yourself out over it. But that warpaint is looking great! :encouragement:

Panel lines & fastener detail drawn from scratch. There is some compromise - the bottom of the tailplanes are mapped the same as the tops. This is OK on a low contrast scheme like this, & i don't think it will be so good on other paint jobs.

Couple more screengrabs showing the underside detail, & pre-war prop blades.:biggrin-new:

I solemnly promise not to obsess over your compromises during mission ops or rec flying, especially the bottoms of tail planes. :biggrin-new:
