Help

Guys

Anybody knows if we have a B-17F anywhere for CFS3 (From PTO maybe)? I have some skins for the 97th BG North Africa using AvH's as a template; but cannot get permission to use them as stand-alone aircraft from anybody that I have tried.

Ndicki and MajMagee, I have tried your suggestions on who to contact, but no answer so far.

Any ideas, thanks

God bless

In that case, you should upload them as skins, with a specified model type (ie, this skin is intended for AvH_US_B-17etc-etc) and equally importantly, specifying the sim name and model name of the resulting stand-alone, so that it can be used in 3rd party missions.

In other words, you tell the people, "Rename B-17F_abcd.m3d to B-17F_mine.m3d, cockpit accordingly, air and xdp files to etc etc..." so that everybody ends up with the same aircraft names.

A question arises in my mind:

Correct me when I'am wrong: the purpuse of asking permission is to respect the work of the original author and to prevent people showing off with the work of some else?

There are some authors who stated in the "readme" file that he/she don't want their work to be uploaded without their permission. I believe that Av History is very strict about this (but I got no time to check that now).

There are lots of planes build by people who are not participating in the community anymore. The changed interest and moved on, something in real life takes all their time, or they got ill or even died.

So here is my question:

Is it possible to use their planes in a upload?
1. AS LONG WE CLEARLY COMMUNICATE WHO IS THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR, and

2. IT COMES FROM THE SOH-WEBSITE AND STAYS ON THIS WEBSITE (SOH) (no uploading to other websites), and

3. NO COMMERCIAL USE IS MADE OF THE ORIGINAL FILE, and

4. THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR HAS NOT FORBIDDEN UPLOADING WITHOUT PERMISSION

In this way we can improve the quality of our Sim by using ánd at the same time honouring and respecting the work of people who were here before.

What is your reaction about this line of thinking?

It's a touchy subject, but you might want to add a link to the original work, and some need to have that installed first by leaving out the shared files for example.

Use of AvH planes

Hello Guys

That is my problem!!

Remcoc and friends, I agree with you guys; but, I am new at this and do not want to overstep my limitations. Here is a quote from AvH readme in the "Chow Hound" B-17G:
Quote from the readme on AvH "Chow Hound" B-17G:

"All portions of this archive are copyrighted freeware. No re-use, modification, hosting or
publication of any portion is allowed without the express written permission of AvHistory
& where applicable the original Visual Designer. All rights reserved."

"Have fun with this, just don't sell it or post it on any other site. AVHistory.org has the only
permission of the author to provide this plane for download.

Repaint permission must be gotten from AVHistory.org.

This will not harm your computer in any way.
Comments to: herbieg@ceinetworks.com or post at AVHistory.org."

Picture: B-17 "Superman" (no Noseart) 340th Squadron of the 97st Bomb Group, N Africa 1943. This is one of my skins for MAW. A "G" until an "F" is available from somewhere.

I have tried everywhere that I can think of and use all contact suggestions from the helpful members of SOH; but, no replies :kilroy:

Should I go ahead or not? And that is my problem.

Thanks for your friendly suggestions and help. Always greatfull

God bless

AvHistory have lightened up on CFS3 material since they've decided to move on to Strike Fighters, BUT! your approach is correct, in not releasing without express permission. GregoryP and Bear are both alive and kicking, and they can be contacted, although they may very well have other preoccupations at the moment. Not for me to guess at.

As for when the developer is genuinely lost to us - ZUYAX, for example - or lost to us in a more definitive way, then if you knew him well enough to be able to guess at his intentions, fine. If not, ask the others who worked with him what they think. You'll always find somebody to ask if you look hard enough.

For example, before releasing "my" Bostons, I thought about Ed, whom I knew, and what he might say. Then I checked with John, who did the original skins, and we agreed that we felt Ed would be happy to see my versions released.

As I said, there's always someone to ask if you look hard enough. And in this case, they're not that difficult to find!

Permission

Thanks friend. I have sent PM to both Bear and Gregoryp and a couple of more persons and the AvH forum; but no replies. Maybe I should wait a little longer; they could be doing other important things and have not have the time to reply

I wait some more.

Thanks to all for the help

In that case you can not upload a new skin without their permission.
Perhaps you can contact Bear and Gregory on a forum where the upload their Strikefighter goodies?
