I'am having problems installing some aircraft.Beech18 for one Short sterling is another. I try to install either useing either the exe or manually. I sooner or later get them in the aircraft list and they show up in the sim ,but when loading ,they go to 77% then the program exits. Is it because I'am not in full windows mode?

I've had the same thing happen, exactly 77% too.

I ended up starting from scratch, complete re-install and rebuild. Afterwards it soon happened again. I got round it that time, I think by deleting the 'SceneryStatus.DAT' file in the root directory. Otherwise, I'm stumped, I tried so many things, I may have forgotten, although deleting the scenery.cfg file from the folder your main cfg's are stored may have helped? NOT the one in your main FS folder but the one in your username/appdata/roaming/microsoft/FS9 folder.

That's a strange coincidence, I read a thread over at Avsim on this very theme earlier on, your problem
is a corrupt file within windows7 stops ALL installers at 77%. Microsoft put wrong file in a windows update.
There's a fix at Microsoft site . I can't get link right now on this smartphone I'm writing this on.

Go to microsoft fixit center, install or upgrade software in box 2, the fix programs that can't be installed.
Hope this helps

no good

I went to the Microsoft fixit center clicked the second box down , but still have the same problem. Could someone send me a link ,so I know I'am at the right place?

no joy

I tried the link, said it could detect no problems. Guess I'll leave FS9 for the weekend ,if no one comes up with anything else ,I'am uninstalling FS9. Thanks for your help

It's a windows7 problem, not a fs9 one. If you google "windows installer stops at 77%"
There's another couple of game sites with alternate solutions.

where are scenery dats?

One solution thats supposed to work sometimes is delete the scenery dat file. Where are they?I looked in the scenery cfg file in application data but no scenery dat files. Either way all the solutions I found are very complicated.
I guess FS9 is going bye bye.
Does FSX have the same problem?

found it no good

I found the scenery dat file and deleted it but no good. On Avsim Manual said to clear all weather and uncheck render to texture. That works but you have no runway textures or sky textures.

It's gone

I got sick of the stress this was causeing me so I deleted FS9. Now I wonder does FSX have the same problem?

If its Windows 7 that is the problem and its not FS9, could it be something to do with the Admin access or something like that?

what about an external drive?

I have a 2 TB external HD ,which has IL2 ,Forgotten Battles and CFS3 ,and Train Simulator on it. They run fine and I can run them with sliders maxed.
Would putting FS9 on there work since it's a separate drive from the OS
Also do other sims have the same 77% problem ,even though it's a Windows 7 problem?

Pete,but I'm on Vista, :dJamie

What web-browser you using Jamie?

One of the other game sites recommends you have IE installed; even if using something else as default browser,
something to do with the game routine looking for IE LAN connections during the loading/install process. I know Vista; like Win7 has a lot of cross-integration thanks to Microsoft wanting to control everything.

If Mr Hurricane can get his loaded with the render to texture disabled (unchecked) ; then that is a different problem; have you tried same?

just airing thoughts

I have IE as my browser

I already have IE as my browser ,so thats not the fix. Diableing render to texture gets you loaded but with no runway or sky textures which look terrible.
Reading through posts on other sites ,this has been a problem since Windows 7 first came out, why hasn't Microsoft come up with a for sure fix?
I also read that if you put FS9 on a separate drive ,you don't have to install outside of program file or do any work arounds.
I'd still like to know if all programs have this problem or just older ones like FS9 and FSX etc.

AND... I would check that path for FS9 and make sure it is installed BY ITSELF on the hard drive. My path for FS9 on Win7: C:\FS Games\Flight Simulator 9.

I created a seperate folder to put FS9 into. I am running Win7 on BOTH of my FS machines and haven't had a lick of trouble with either. If somehow, your install of FS9 has ended up in the Program files or the X86 folder, thing can pretty much go to heck in a hand basket, really quick.
If you choose to re-install FS9, try using the path I indicated as above and run the installer "As Administrator". Unless there is corruption elsewhere on your machine, it should work just fine.
Hope that helps...
