here we go again

Not using W7 yet but I remember Obio saying often that installing FS9 somewhere other than default is key to running it well in 7. Try searching his posts for more details. Keep circling Hurricane, the runway is is almost finished.

thanks but.......

I had fs9 installed under it's own folder ,NOT under program files.I ran under administrator with UAC turned off.
Just read another post where someone else had both fs9 and fsx installed under another HD separate from the OS and the same thing happed.
So guys I'am done with FS9 and won't even try FSX. I hate not ever seeing those beautiful planes again but it took 3 weeks for the 77% bug to hit me and I can't take the stress.
Had a new computer built that ran fs9 like glass then this. The so called solutions either don't really address the problem or don't work or are to complex for me.
I'll have to stick to newer sims but their all combat sims and I suck at air to air combat.
Fs9 is gone from my puter for the first time in 10 years and I'll miss it and miss you guys who have been so patent and helpful.

guess 10 years

Don't think FS9 has been out for 10 years must be thinking of FS2002.But I got FS9 when it first came out.Like Hawkeye said ,shoulda stuck with XP.

I took OBIO's advise when I installed FS9 on me first Win7 machine. He has a compleat list of little tweaks and tricks that have worked well. It's pretty much gospel when it comes to doing your FS9 installs on Win7.

I'm sorry to read that installing FS9 under Windows 7 has created so much stress for Hurricane.

Is OBIO's list posted somewhere? I'm going to replace my computer some day soon, and that means migrating to Windows 7.0 and I'd like some information in advance on installing FS9. I think I have the general idea on what to do, but further advice would be much appreciated.

What web-browser you using Jamie?

Pete,
I no longer have the problem, no idea how I eventually sorted it. I think it was pretty much at that point I did a C: format, after that it went away. Shista Home Premium (fully up-to-date) with IE9 installed but not used (Opera, there is no real alternative :d)

Jamie

PS. Hurricane, sometimes, and I'm not sure why, I get a scenery.cfg file showing up in my FS config folder, deleting it does no harm, have you tried that? DO NOT delete the one in your main Flight Simulator 2004 folder, wherever you installed it to, but you will find it in your users/*yourname*/appdata/roaming/microsoft/FS9/ folder (you must have 'show hidden files/folders' enabled.) I've done this in the past as my 77% was when traffic was loading and I thought it might help, it did help me in the past with scenery problems.

Jd ,I did all those things

Except for reformatting my C drive, which means I'd have to pay the guy who built my computor to reinstall Windows 7 ,I did everything you did.I do use IE9 as my brower though. I just don't want to go through all this ( reinstalling FS9) just to have it happen three weeks later like it did last time.
No one has answered wither installing on my 2 TB external HD might help, even though I read about some one else who did that and it still happened.

Check in the FS Tweaks section in the FS2002 - FS2004 Forums page. Come to think of it, I may have started that thread and OBIO and others chimed in.

Not real sure what Hurricane's issue is, but it sounds like corruption somewhere, other than in his FS install. I have had issues that totally could not be fixed with an older machine (No longer in service) that affected my FS. One of which was a corrupt download from my antivirus program. It reeked havoc on the registry... I had to format and re-load everything. Suffice to say I changed antivirus programs pretty much on the spot.

Gound Texture Fuzzies??

This was the only thread I found you initiated. Have to see if it has the do's and don'ts of installing FS9 under Windows 7.0.

Hurricane, this may be a dumb question, but......if you have your XP discs, why don't you do an XP install on your new PC?

It is possible to have two operating systems on the same machine. If you don't know how, I am sure there are several folk here who can walk you through the SIMPLE/ EASY process.

My recommendation is don't stress any more on this Hurricane. Do other stuff, have some fun and after a while you may get an urge to have another try and follow it to a new start or something. Happens now and then with this and probably other sims. I had the same "I'm done" a time or two and here I am again. The second time I think what happened is the culprit was killed by an unrelated fix of another problem. When I got the bug again and rediscovered the fun of building the game up, yeah it can be fun, the problem never resurfaced so you never know.

Thankyou

Thankyou for your understanding, I have a sever anixity disorder and also depression. It seems this hobby can be a nightmare ,when you may work for years building your sim the way you want it then everything goes to hell in a handbasket.
All I want to do is fly, since I can't for real anymore this is my only way.
I don't want to be a computer programer just fly.
Thankyou for taking the time and caring enough to write this post my friend.

You said a mouthful. Not just this sim but computers, even life in general. But what we do for fun should be done for fun. Sometimes my fun comes from solving a problem, or trying until I give up. Most others it is as you said, I just want to fly. So take a break, say never again, just try to do what dissipates the funk and breathe the air again. Hey, that even rhymed ;)

I would, after some time to chill out, simply install FS9 from the CDs and fly it out of the box for a few days. No addon stuff at all.
I am thinking it will be stable enough then since it works for 99.9% of the folks with similar systems.
Then add just a couple aircraft, no more than two or three and again fly for a few days without changes. If all is still good install what ever else is most important to you.

I know FS can be both exhilarating and frustrating. Sometimes both on the same day. But trying to do too much too quickly without time to check if all is still working as it should tends to favor the latter.

Cheers
Stefan

I also found an FS9 disk set in a used book store for a pittance, so if you like nosing around those kind of places like I do you will probably find one to tuck away for later.
