Well, the cat would be out of the bag sooner or later - probably when/if the plane is successfully recovered. Hard to figure out the Navy's reasoning with submerged aircraft. A plane can decompose underwater for 60+ years and nobody cares, but just let somebody attempt to recover it and suddenly it's a precious historic artifact that the Navy must protect (i.e. confiscate). USAF has a more common-sense policy: if you can recover the bird it's yours, have a ball.Well, there's another one the Navy will claim seeing he notified the "Authorities".
