I was playing around with my old space shuttte and got it to go to 100 million feet..Thats where FSX tops out I guess and you go no further. I changed the sim properties of the shuttle to an (Animal) believe it or not and the thing is now steerable to the left and right..no rolls or pitch though..Im considering working on a new shuttle pack--see what else can be done

I downloaded some of Bruce Fitzgerald's space toys, but couldn't get above 100,000 feet. I wanted to take the starship Enterprise up to a high orbit, but no go. Is there something I need to do to get up as high as you?

I was well on my way, but had to return for more gas...

Pretty cool guys...

I didnt think an animal airfile could do that. Good to know. It must have some goodies in there that 'bend the rules' for the sim world. Could help on making 'odd things' work.

:d

Note, you can go to High Altitude (such as 1 MIL feet up) quickly by going to Map View, and selecting Alt setting, then OK out. Bing..... Orbit! Slewing can take 5 min's or more.

You can slew faster if you raise the simulation rate...:ernae:

Nice work Ron! Man, if someone ever comes up with an airfile that works for a spaceship with high controllability and speed, I am there. I love Bruces and Tims sci fi ships, but the thrill gets lost with the lack of being able to fly out of orbit

I managed to get the Alphasim SR-71 into space with no file alterations. All I had to do was set fuel to unlimited, empty the tanks, and make the shock cones kick in below 30,000 feet for a rocketship like ride into space.

Hi Noshadez,

Would be Fun to Take a Rocket ride into Space, 100 million miles sounds good,

Been waiting for a Game that Start you off on Earth and lets you fly on up to the Moon for a Landing then Back Again !!

Would need lots O Beers for That Mission !! :jump:

Cheers !!

There is a program called Orbiter at www.orbitersim.com that allows you to do that very thing. The program does take alittle time to get used to, Lots of technical knowledge.

Edit: Looks likes Dangerous Beans posted it at the same time.

100,000,000 feet is about 20,000 miles. You should totally do that flight again, then once at your max altitude switch to a Cessna 172 for the ride back down.

I beleive FSX max is 10 million feet , my spaceships will reach 700,000 but you have to be using SP1 - for some reason SP2 killed the performance - i do have an SP2 FDE that will reach 600,000 but in the atmosphere the turbines runaway and have to be shutdown to land

I've been meaning to ask Mr Barendregt if he would consider building a thruster gauge (works above 400,00ft ) along the lines of his arrestor and hover gauges - he's even made an automotive transmission gauge - so if anyone could bring it to light I would have to give him my vote

the ISS orbits at an Average 175 miles or 924,000 ft .....
