Nice P! Thats when a house was really a house .... and not these things they build today out of inferior quality sticks and duct tape.
 
Great pictures Panther, I have been there and have seen all of those house and you have done a fantastic job. Feels like I am right there looking at them.
 
P. you keep getting better and better with that Nikon camera of yours! Glad I followed your lead and bought myself one as well!

Now, if I could choose one of those three houses to be mine, I would pick #2! I just love the architecture, the style and design of it.

Gorgeous homes P, but the first house kind of reminds me of Boldt Castle up on the St. Lawrence River... on a much smaller scale tho.

Looks victorian, gothic looks way more menacing and incorporates a lot more sharp edges.
See Notre Dame for example.

I would be surprised to see a true, old gothic building in the USA. After all, it was more of a very old european thing.
 
Panther, when you were at Offutt you should have checked out the Fort Crook Historic District on base. The senior officers' homes all date back to the 1890's when the base was the Fort Crook army post. Can't find any pics on the web but I used to walk past them every day on my way to intel school.

There is a neo-gothic church downtown where I live that certainly falls into the "menacing" category. It was built in the 70's if I remember correctly.:mixedsmi:
The end of the Gothic Architecture fad sort of coincided with the colonization of North America.

Hey, my contractor assured me that he used only the finest quality duct tape on my house ! :icon_lol:

Nice pics, P. Gotta agree, those were houses for generations of families.

Especially like the first one. Looks like it has a nice wrap-around porch area for leisurely afternoons and evenings. Put a hand-cranked ice-cream mixer and a couple of youngsters to turn it on the front steps.....that's the way to spend a warm summer evening !

Our current house lacks any kind of usable front porch so we raise the garage door and sit there in the evenings.

and i lived in a historic house in England circa 1600
the British one was better built

Neogothic...not really appealing to the eye. :/


I think I'm a bit spoilt by lots of brick-gothic buildings in my city.
